Default New tranny on 05

Well I took my car in becuase when accelerating off the line there was a weird chattering noise that didnt sound good. Got a call today from Nissan saying that my tranny has to much tolerance in it and that they ordered me a new one, I have 2800 miles. Will this tranny issue ever end?

They explained it like this. Each part that is made for the transmission is not all exacty same size as all the others. There is a certain tolerance that the pieces can be alitle bigger or alittle smaller then the other. Mine are to small and it is causing it to shake and make a loud noise.

So is this considered a fluke or a defect?

They considered it a defect. So hopefully the next will not make the loud annoying noise. If it does, I dont know what I will end up doing.

Well, almost all new tranny's have a lot of hard plastic in them. Parts go bad faster. You know we are seeing a very big increase in HP for the cars. The tranny design has not caught up with this large increase in HP to the fly wheel. A couple of years and it will be solved. Some may not agree with my assessement but I do work for Visteon and I do speak with engineers at Ford V engines (friends) and there is a problem.

Sounds bad for us but wait until the new Vette has the same problem.

This could be the case, but I am suprised that Nissan is having such big issues with the Z's tranny when they make the Skyline. The skyline factory has more power then the Z and has HUGE mod capabilities.

If you have a MT the sound your hearing is gearbox chatter and is NORMAL. Go drive another 350Z on their lot and see if it does the same thing. I freaked out about the same noise and took into the dealer...they ended up swapping out the entire tranny and when I got it back it had the same noise. Go slide into a brand new Z off the lot and get it warmed up and you WILL hear the gearbox chatter. I test drove THREE brand new 350Zs and they all made the same sound. The chatter goes away after 2krpm in 1st gear. No other gear does it. You guys need to quit freaking out about noises from the tranny because you will HAVE to deal with it or you'll stress yourself out too much. Whines, chatter, marbles are all part of the clutch assembly and tranny in these things. If you are grinding gears while the car is warm, THEN you have a warranty issue. IMO I would not let them swap the tranny because it takes a long time to break one in.

Everybody has to understand you have to take it REAL easy on the tranny when the components are cold, especially 1st to 2nd gear. I skip 2nd gear for about 10 minutes of driving and then when I use 2nd I slip it in nice and slow. Once you've driven it around for a while, this tranny is so performance oriented its sickening. I've never had a tranny like 350Z. It engages so smoothly when warm and the throws are so short. Learn to love it or you'll lose to much sleep and hair.

I was going to check this out, but I thought about it after they said they would replace it. After they replace it and if it still does it, then I will go check out another Z or just forget about it.

I thought it could be normal, but after nissan having my car for 2 days they told me that is deffinately not normal. I guess I will just see after I get it fixed. The tranny should be here in a day or two.

It's not normal. I had a a whining noise when the cluth was depressed and the same whining/chatter noise when the car was in first gear accelerating.
Dealership just put a new tranny in my car and the clutch depress noise is almost gone ( you can barely hear it) and the first gear whinig/chatter is completly solved. If it would be a normal issue I would have the same noise in the new tranny.

When you press in the clutch everything stops spinning including the clutch...the transmission more or less shuts down so to speak and starts back up when you release the pedal. Unless you mean there was a whining noise while you were depressing it, not holding it down.

I had chatter with my factory installed tranny and I noticed the chatter as soon as I took delivery of the car and it worried me. I tried to see if it would go away but after 400 or so miles I decided to take it in. The tech said it was not normal and decided to swap the tranny. The new tranny made the EXACT same chatter. At that point I took it back in and I drove three different '05 6sp and they all had the chatter. If you had chatter going all the way through to redline thats not normal, but if it went away after 2-2.5k on the tac then that is normal.
