rb26 motor swap?
Has anyone put a rb26 in there 350z? Anyone know anyone who has? Im thinking of doing it and putting a huge single on there. I've got a supra and compared to my supra the acceleration of the 350z isnt really great.. I've heard of people in Japan doing this...anyone have any information on that?
Thanks,
Dave

wow. i know the japanese like to swap anything for everything and all. but didtn know they were already tossin the rb26 in for the vq.. they havent even tried to make much power outta the vq yet anyways...
i'd hold off man. twin turbo aftermarket kits are commin out. as well as single turbo and SC.. so if your lookin to get forced induction just wait it out
some pretty good products are definatly commin our way

Heres a 240Z with an RB26 swap. So I guess if you have the money it can be done.

That 240z is just plain sick, total sleeper. The only thing cooler might be that swap into a 510.
On 350 RB26 swap note, from what I understand the VQ won't be good for the insane power that the RB26 handles but I suspect we'll see 500HP + setups in the comming months. I guess it depends on how far you want to take it. Since it's your money though, I say go for it!

I got a ride around the track in a 240Z with a B26DET not too long ago, and that **** was fast!
Anyways, if you plan on doing the swap into a 350Z, don't plan on it ever being a street car as it's illegal to swap and older motor into a newer car... I know the FL laws are a joke, but if you ever sell it, it can never be registered...

how hard of a process is it to swap engines? and how much money does it take?
also, seeing as to how RB26's could be a lil hard to get a hold of...how about the RB20's...(i think its the Silvia engine) as 240SX's and whatnot are commonly dropped in with those...how reasonable would that be? a tricked out silvia turbo engine to replace the VQ...?

a silvia motor is an sr20det,not rb20, but by swapping in one of these motors, you'd be losing horsepower...you can find a silvia motor for around 2g's, but its only a 4cylinder putting out 210hp,so you'd be losin 77hp.
Kinda off topic, but anyone heard of a Holden VL turbo commodore? Its an Australian car. They have turboed RB30DET engines. Add boost an intercooler, larger exhaust and you have a 13 sec car. Do some more and you have a beast!
CHeck this car out! Check the video at the end of the page, pretty funny...takes off from the dyno, untill a couple of fat guys sit in the boot (trunk). By the way, we measure a lot in Kilowatts back in oz...350kw is about 470hp.

I had one when I lived back home in oz, I sure miss it, I miss that sound. But I moved to AZ, I wish I could pick up a similar car for around 7k over here

I doubt if there is much of an aftermarket for the VQ30DET compared to the RB26. However being a V6, it might be a better fit. Stock the VQ30DET puts down 280hp and 285 ft/lbs of torque. I'm sure with a bit of tuning you could make some decent power. You also have the assurance your building on a motor that was designed for boost unlike the VQ35DE with it's 10.3 to 1 CR.

I'm headed to Japan on April 4th to watch MotoGP at Suzuka and was looking to bring a 20B engine back for a friends RX7. Are there any issues with shipping this or any other engine to the states.

I highly doubt we'll ever see a rb26dett swapped into a Z, for two reasons. One, one of the reasons we never saw the skyline come stateside was b/c it was hard to convert the skyline into a LHD version. Second, the RB26dett is an I6, which requires more room for the engine than a V6. I think it would be pretty difficult to shove it in there.
With enough $$ anyting can be dont, but i don't think it's likely.
