Default Dyno'd today on a mustang dyno - questions

Today Gruppe-S in the Bay Area, CA help a dyno day for evo's. My best friend has an evo so he invited me, only $50 for 3 runs. It was sweet, tons of sick cars including the Bozz/Cusco Evo features in last months import tuner, which put down 417hp. They were kinda pissed i came with a Z considering they had the dyno all set up for AWD Evos, but they still squeezed me in at the very end at the same price.

Anyway, i know Mustang Dynos read wayyyy different than regular dynojets so i was wondering if anyone knows exactly how to translate it.

I dyno'd at 230hp/216tq, the guy said that he's dyno'd some stock 350z's and they usually dyno at 200-205 and he thought that i was somewhere between 250-275hp on a dynojet. Was hoping someone knew exactly how it translates to dynojet power. I have my graphs but i dont have a scanner.

The weird thing was they dyno'd in 4th gear, i thought our car's closest 1:1 was in 5th? Also the Hp was building up higher and higher on my chart all the way to where they cut it off, but they cut it off at 6250rpms, i dont understand why they didnt pull all the way to 6800 - anyone know?

Thanks,
Alex

i don't know about the conversion btwn the two types of dynos, but they prolly ended the pull when your shift light came on, no?
hp diffs btwn 4th and 5th are minimal, from what i've read. i think 4th would give sl higher number.
ps: how was your a/f?

I dyno on a mustang dyno . The operator , with 25 years at it , Said its between 10% to 12% lower than a Dynojet . He mentioned that Dynojets all read different . And mustang dyno's [ if set up the way it should be ] will all read with in a few hp of each other . He said he runs in [3rd ] gear for a AT and 4th for a MT , is it just takes less time and isnt as hard on the car and the dyno . We did do one run in 4th on my AT and it come up 2hp less than in 3rd . I believe he also said ,, they use a 6 second ramp up time , and Dynojets use a 10 second ramp time . [ not sure on that ] I cant explain why ramp up time makes a difference . Maybe some one else can

Mustang dynos are great for tuning, as they are load based. Other than that it's tough to calculate real world HP/TRQ with it as there are many correction factors as well.

Im far from having any know how on a dyno , but you would think if all Mustangs come up with close to the same hp readings , and are load based [ drum being harder to turn for a heavier car ] that a Mustang dyno would be me more real world than a dyno that is free spinning and shows a wide range of readings from dyno to dyno

ok so if 10% itd be 253hp/238tq, if it was 12% itd be 258hp/242tq

still pretty good. I'm glad to see my mods are actually making a difference in gains.

I would say that mustang dyno falls into the 10-12% less than dynojet. The smaller roller mustangs are about 10-12% while the large rollers are ~8-10%.

I dynoed on Mustang Dyno as well. My Z put out 229Hp/213tq. That is real close to what you put out with your Z.

Mods:Borla TD and K&N Filter.

Thanks for making it to our Evo dyno day. Sorry for having you wait since the day was meant to be for Evos only. If any of you guys want us to host a 350z dyno day...I would be more than happy to do so.

The Greddy TT made 305lbs of tq and let me tell you...this car hauls some major *** when you get on it. Once again, its not about the peak whp but the area under the curve that you should look at.

While stock, I dyno'ed 219whp/212wtq on a mustang dyno. Two days later (same weather) I dyno'ed 230whp/231wtq on a dynojet. You should ignore these measurements as absolute values in HP/TQ. Use a dyno only to measure immediate difference in HP/TQ after applying mods. And hope the dyno guys use same correction factors ...

Cheers.

Who cares what numbers you get as long as they are consistent? If you are looking for bragging rights you can make them up like most people do anyway. The point of the dyno is to see what you are gaining or losing from tuning and mods.
