Default SES caused by Tilton Flywheel

Well I just spent $89.04 at the dealership to have them tell me that the flywheel they installed is causing my check engine light to come on. They said that since this flywheel is meant for track use only that it is throwing some code i think its po300 or pa300 cant really read the writing. Well they cleared the code and but now its back on again. Do you think they just installed it wrong or is this normal for this clutch and flywheel?

eh... that's a misfire code isn't it?
If the flywheel isn't balanced for some reason i can see that being the cause. But I rather doubt it. I'm no mechanic btw, but you may want to check your plugs/wires/coils.

Isn't there a tsb on crank angle sensors?

I have the misfire code too, but it didn't start happening until after I had the TS reflash

TS said it was the tilton or spark plugs. I changed my plugs to 1 step colder like they recomended and that didn't do anything.

One theory is the engine is running too lean and causing a misfire, but you have just a few minor mods so that seems less likely and you have access to 93 octane gas in FL I think right? I'm stuck with 91. I've tried 101 octane and that didn't solve it either.

the crank angle sensor TSB is for Z's with a build date of july 2002 and earlier

so to summarize, the tilton COULD be causing the misfire. Some people have said they believe the tilton is not properly balanced - this isn't the 1st time it's been brought up.

the only time I had the tilton cause an SES light for me was when I would let it idle too low or I stalled it a couple times in a row... as soon as I took the tilton off, I stopped getting SES lights

The random cylinder misfire code is triggered when the crank angle sensor detects an "abonormal" acceleration or deceleration of the crank. THis level of automotive engineering thoroughly impresses me. The crank angle sensor can pick up minute difference in how the crank is accelerating, and if, for instance, one cylinder doesnt fire, it will detect an abnormal acceleration or movement in the crank, and trigger the code.

There are a myriad of items that could cause a random multiple cylinder misfire code. To be honest, I usually just ignore it most of the time.

Did this code just come on immediately after the tilton install?

It's very easy to bang the crap out of the sensor, when putting the bellhousing on. You are supposed to remove it beforehand, but maybe the shop didnt? It might we worth buying a new sensor, and seeing if that helps. It takes about 2 mins to change it......after jacking up the car.

I was thinking something similar. Does the car in question have a Lightweight pully also? Maybe the crank is actually cycling between slow and fast each cyl fire and between the Tilton and Pully the angular velocity delta really is outside the acceptable delta the ECM is looking for.

The code came on the next day after I had it installed at the dealership, i didn't really drive it that much the day i had it installed. Then yesterday I had the code cleared and later that night it came back on. I'll look into getting a new sensor, thanks for the responses

it becomes your friend...

and it goes away...

it comes on when the cars idle is too low... or when you let the RPM's drop way down and pop back up (like you are going to stall but you save it)... OR it also happens when you hit the rev limiter... even when you have a stock clutch / flywheel the engine has a WOT Missfire (reason for most cats blowing out from this car ....)

Nothing to worry about... Just have your idle raised (900-1100) and stay away from pegging the rev limiter and you wont see it... oh yeah... also dont let the RPM's drop down too low on launch befor stalling etc...

but after a while we dont stall anymore rite
