Default How safe/effective are octane boosters

How safe are these on the engine? Will I get a noticeable increase in performance and how much is too much?

they definitely make a difference, especially if you are in a 91 octane state. Get the latest Sport Compact Car magazine, they have done lab testing on 2 name brands and home brew.

why not just run some higher octane race gas mixed in? It's healthier and it's the real deal

Same as Bran say...my personal experience with them is it will leave a pink deposit on your spark plug which in turn cause mis-fire.

I thought race gas ruins your O2 sensors.

I mixed 103 octane in a 3/1 mixture with 3 gallons of regular 93 and there was a noticable difference once the ECU adjusts for it, do a few WOT runs after putting it it to let the ECU readjust timing for you....

SCC's article said the Outlaw stuff raised 91 to almost 93. It now comes in a concentrated formula, 4 bottle pack for $10 that is safe for full time use and sensors. I have been using it for 4k miles and it seemed to make some difference. For a real test I should try skipping a few tanks now and see if I notice any difference. Unfortunately I am hooked, I can't stop adding it every tank full and I make sure I don't run low.

those octane boosters do not raise the gas anti detonation by two points, they raise it by .2 points. It can help but mixing touline or xylene is much better bang for the buck. I could be wrong about the .2 points but I have heard that on more than one occasion.

I only know what I read in Sport Compact Car magazine last month, a magazine that seems professional (at least compared to the rest of the import field) and very outspoken about California's 91 octane fuel. They claim to have sent two products for testing along with touline as a home brew and some 91 octane fuel from the pump. They seemed to have spent a lot of time explaining how they tested, who was testing and what they tested for it to be total BS.
