I'm sending my motor to sgp to be rebuilt, I would like to break the motor down to send seperatly ( save some money of shipping). To get the heads off do you just take the 6 10mm allen bolts out , and are they reverse thread ??? I tried taking them off the other day and i just could not break them free !!!

Use a breaker bar, and check the service manual for de-torquing procedures. If you just go and take out the bolts, you have a chance of warping the head.

If you use a torque wrench you can decrease the torques in 10 ft/lb increments in the standard criss cross pattern in the service manual. This will gradually release the pressure on the head in an even manner. You can actually hear the headgasket cracking as you do this procedure. Bolts are standard thread...lefty loosy.
