Default No EGR system in the Z?

I'm in the process of installing my APS TT kit and I noticed while working on the Z that I can't find any EGR system on this car. I thought cars were required to have EGR systems. I guess I was wrong. I'm definitely glad the Z doesn't have one though...The intake manifold stays MUCH cleaner because of it. Does anyone know why the Z doesn't have an EGR system?

Most modern cars with twin cam variable valve timing do not need EGR. By dialing in a little extra overlap betwen the intake and exhaust cams the OEM gets an effect similar to the old school EGR systems but with less performance or economy degradation. The return fuel system has no correlation with the EGR function. It does however; effect the EVAP system efficiency.
