Default APS TT kit with Greddy Ultimate computer...

I just bought rods/pistons/APS TT/Greddy Ultimate/Clutch/Quaife/RaceLogic.

The thought is: pump 20lbs of boost into this engine... However the uni-chip that comes with the APS kit isn't tuned for that, and I can't find anyone outside of Cali to tune the sucker.

I thought a easier way would be to just get the Greddy Ultimate, because it should do ALMOST everything I need it to. (With the exception of SETTING TIMEING, but that "should" be in soon.) And there is a lot more people that can tune a Greddy.

I found one guy running it on a VQ35 on a differnt forum. He had good things to say about the 1.04 (or 1.4) build, and hasn't popped his engine yet.

Am I insane? (Wait, don't answer that.) Is this a valid approach?

It can mess with the timing... but you can't just "SET" it to a number. So i can read the timing, and set advance/retard, but I can't just dail in 15deg timing @ 4500 rpm for example.

I would prefer the later... vs. having to read the stock timing and move it from there...

I'm hoping it has a view to watch temps + knock when tuning... So I can tweak the map as I go... I'll download it and play with it some more...

spdkils, totally doable, and a very good approach to controlling a 15-20psi APS kit.

PM me if you need more details on this.

In the next week or so, we'll have the ability to advnace timing, and shorltly after that, you can actually SET the timing in the map...ie 17 degrees instead of -5.

With the J&S Safeguard you can set it to pull xxx degree of timing at xxx rpm. You can also set it to pull different degrees of timing in different cylinders. ie pull 1/2 degree of timing in cylinder 5 at 3K rpm and pull 1 degree of timing in cylinder 4 at 3K rpm, and so on...

From what I understood the EU will have something close to this, so I would rather go with the EU since its around the same price as the J&S safeguard, and it can do most of the same things and has many other features that are useful in tuning.

Default Downloaded the software...

I've downloaded the software and played with it some...

I'm going to have a bit of a learning curve on this one.

I just need to buy the last pieces to finish up what I want... (Wide band, boost gages, boost controller, gages, gage pod, etc)

I've already over ran my budget slightly... So it may be a month or so before I get the last of it installed. But it will be one fast car...

Don't forget to buy new actuators or you won't get to the 20lbs of boost you are shooting for.
