Default noob question

The question i have is regarding test pipes, cats, and down pipe. What is the difference between all of them and where are they located on the Z, a good explanation or pics would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Well....the test pipes are actually the downpipes...they replace the spot that the factory catalytic converter (cat) usually occupies. To start, the factory exhaust manifold comes off the cylinder head and stops about 8" from the bottom of the transmission...one on each side because it is a V6. The factory cats join to the exhaust manifolds at this point and actually flatten out with the profile of the bottom of the car .... beside the transmission. The stock y-pipe then ataches to the end of each cat and goes to the middle of the car to make the "Y" shape. The rear section of the exhaust then attaches to the end of the y-pipe.

Here are some pics of th y-pipe as it comes off the cats/testpipes beside the tranny. These look like factory cats. They are replaced with test pipes. 3rd pic shows how the cats curve upward at 45 degrees to attach to the exhaust manifolds.
