Hmmm... I did not count the number of new bolts they sent me. I counted 10 holes in both the spacer ring and the Quaife differential. I know there were no washers included with the new bolts. The instructions indicated I was to send the original 12mm bolts *and* original washers back to Quaife. Does that mean we await shipment of 10 new 13mm washers? Or does that mean the new bolts are to be used without washers?

Hey meat... Soo.

If I'm hearing this right... I can take a 5MT, OPEN DIFF...

Remove the guts...

Put in the Quaife with a 3.3 ring gear and pinion and the bolts for the 3.3.

???????????????????????????????????????

I sure hope so.

Yeah, I just got my new bolts and I got 10 of them without any washers. I don't think washers are necessary for the 13mm bolts. Put a washer on the 12mm bolt and put it up against a 13mm bolt for comparison. You'll see the amount of remaining shaft length is about the same on both.

Good to hear it works with the 3.3 FD. Now if it will work with the 3.5 FD with spacer and new bolts reamins to be seen.

I just recieved my new bolts as well in the mail, along with a letter stating that I should return the bolts AND the washers. I think I'm going to hold off until someone manages to complete their install on this one.

Is anyone else installing the diff on an 03 Base 350Z?

I'm installing on an 03 base, probably next week. I confirmed with Quaife that you DO NOT need washers for the new bolts.

Got an email from Quaife about the test fitting and here's the response.

"On 10/6/2005 I communicated our success with the build-up to your dealer, Forged Internals. I had hoped that the good news would be disseminated. The work was performed on a third member set up for the 2005 SEMA show car belonging to a prominent air filter company, and was done by our local Infiniti dealer. Everything works perfectly. We also recently received great feedback from a race team in Puerto Rico that has already installed the diffs, spacers, and bolts with great success. They report, "We test Quaife differentials on our (2)350Z and works great check photos of both cars. Ours cars improves top speed and corner traction. Also there's a difference in weight loss(6 to 8 pounds)."

I am confident that "all will work" and I'm sure that you will all soon be enjoying the benefits of a QUAIFE Automatic Torque Biasing Differential.

Attached are also a couple of pictures of the post build-up.

BTW - the new bolts require NO washers.

Kind regards,

Harleigh Williams
Quaife Aftermarket Manager
"

So looks like we are good to go for those of us who have to use the spacer and new bolts.

Yes, it will fit a VLSD diff but you need the spacer and bolts. In the attachment you can clearly see the spacer sandwiched in between the diff and the ring gear.

Can somebody clarify if this is correct. I've read the thread 3 times and am still not sure ->

So we need a 5 speed manual open diff from a G35 sedan to make this work. Is this correct?

Do you need the whole pumpkin?

What stubs do you use?

If you have an auto (3.3 FD) with an open diff then the Quaife should be a direct drop in.

If you have an auto (3.3 FD) with a VLSD diff then you will need open diff stub axles.

If you have a manual (3.5 FD) with an open diff then you will need the 10mm spacer and bolts.

If you have a manual (3.5 FD) with a VLSD diff then you will need the 10mm spacer and bolts and open diff stub axles.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong here on any points.

Number 1: All auto 350Z's have VLSD, so no such thing exists, unless G35s.
Number 2 & 3 & 4: Open diff from what car? And has anyone done it?

Not trying to be an azz, but which open diff? There are no 350Z's with 3.3 gears and an open diff. All base model, open diffs came with manual trans from the factory. So 3.5 gearing in all open diffs. Am I wrong?
