For the people who modded their cars!
Had a quick question for the modders. So how many of you guys have lost your warranty due to your modifications?? What mod caused you to loose your warranty.
The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act (15 U.S.C. 2302(C)) - This federal law regulates warranties for the protection of consumers. The essence of this law concerning aftermarket auto parts is that a vehicle manufacturer may not condition a written or implied warranty on the consumers using parts or services which are identified by brand, trade, or corporate name (such as the vehicle makers brand) unless the parts or service are provided free of charge. The law means that the use of an aftermarket part alone is not cause for denying the warranty. However, the law's protection does not extend to aftermarket parts in situations where such parts actually caused the damage being claimed under the warranty.
wow, you learn something new every day thanks for that interesting law there intrepid. i never knew that, oh and as for my i have a grounding kit, jwt pop charger, and resignator is cut out of exhaust.

However, in reality, they can deny the work, and in some cases, you'll have to get legal representation in order for them to fix your car under warranty.

Thanks...... So does this mean no one in the forum has lost their warranty? So if they took their car to the dealership and they saw the aftermarket intake they wouldn't say crap?

you will realize the law is not always the end all. yes, if you fight, they will have to fix the problem for free, but the fight isnt always worth it.
nothing currently released for the Z can void a warrenty. but for instance, if you managed to get hydrolock, they wouldnt fix it.
but now if you put a TC on the car, and pretty much anything went wrong with the drivetrain, you better believe their gonna deny you.
their are some that will just put the car back to stock form, bring it in, and go on their merry way. if your S manager is a dick, this is one option if you have a problem and he complains that you have an intake or something, just remove it before bringing it in. no problems then. it just gets more complicated to do as mods get more intricate.

just a suggestion if you don't like your service manager switch dealerships. i've spoken with nissan on several occassions they said i am able to take my car to any dealership i'd like. i live in NJ bought my car in NY i made sure i didn't have to go back up there again to get my car serviced. if you want to feel the sales manager out just give him a call don't specify who you are, tell him you were going to get some performance modifications and you would like to know if it will be a problem.
i had a wierd noise coming out of the engine of my rsx (it has an AEM intake and tanabe medallion exhaust) and the acura folks took it in without any questions. so, with this experience, i would expect dealers to not reject your car, as long as you haven't messed with the insides of the engine or anything.
