Default convert 287hp to 300hp?

I searched around a bit but did not find anything.

with a few exceptions, it is known that the major differences between the 287 and 300hp engines are the new plenum design as well as continuous variable intake valve timing.

is there a way to convert a 287hp engine to have the CVVT? if it is possible, how much work would it take/cost?

thanks,

Harv

also has different cams.. new heads.. and a few other bits...

best thing to do is just do the lower intake manifold and get an ecu flash... that will get you over the 300 to the crank mark...

Jason,

the goal is to have the CVVT...not necessarily the new plenum/head/cams.....just wondering if i can get the CVVT, too!

you can... but will have to use the new heads / pistons / rods / crank etc etc etc...

The new heads have a new deck shape to match the new pistons in the REV-UP motor... the new pistons will only work with the new rods... the new rods most likely will only work with the new crank...

the new cams will only work with the new heads... the CVVT will only work with the new heads and new front engine cover...

it goes on and on im afraid...

I thought that CVVT is standard on all Z cars? Am I wrong?

on all 287 HP motors on the exhaust cams

on the 300HP motors (on all 06 6MT) it has variable intake & exhaust timing...

Do you have proof of dyno gains with the lower plenum? Or are you just going by what people think they feel when they install it?

Somehow, I thought it was the other way around? - Variable intake on the Non RevUp Motor, not exhausts.

Your rite! my bad! the REV UP MOtor has Variable EXHAUST timing! SORRY!!! I spaced... I am dislexik some times :P

Anyway...

The lower track plenum has shorter intake runners... there is overall more volume in the Rev-Up plenum...

The shorter runners make for higher Peak HP at a higher RPM, but the small sacrifice for shorter runners is less low end torque... But the screeming high end makes up for it...

On a car with the REV-UP plenum you feel it pull all the way up to redline.. When you put the stock plenum back on that car, the car feels like it is asleep from 5000-6700 RPM...

Here is the 287 HP Lower Plenum... notice how much material is in the middle over the runners...

Here is the REV-UP plenum.. see how much more space there is... the runners are shorter by almost an inch...

next to eachother...

pre-post dyno...

not very at all... takes about an hour and a half with hand tools if you take your time...

the tech's at our shop charge 2 hours for isntall...

dont have to remove the throttle body so it is quicker to install then the upper plenums...

If you have a ECU upgrade where the RPM range is raised then you will gain even more HP... with this mod you peak HP at around 7000 RPM...

no its not pointless... you gain more HP and keep climing from 6200-6700 RPM... but you gain even MORE out of it with a reflash since the power keeps climbing...

Wow dyno shows it all. Now I def wouldnt do this plenum. Look at the curve under the peak gains guys. The regular plenum out pulls it from 2800-6200rpm's hp wise, and crushes the revhigh plenum in the TQ. In a race, the regular plenum would pull harder all the way except the last second or two of ever gear, the gains isnt big enough to where the new plenum could make it up. Waste of money imo....
