Why is cable so long on Grounding Kit ?

Stupid question.
I noticed that in most kits the cable that runs from the battery to the left side of the motor (looking from front of car) is quite long, why does it have to be so long? I understand that there must be some slack for engine movement but I believe that this is a bit excessive.
Isn't the shorther the better ?
Does the length of each earth cable need to be similar ?
See attached image

These pictures are from my original install. The measured length came from the Nissan Grounding kit.
You have very good eyes!
I have since re-measured the lenghts for a more "tailored" installation.
If you will also notice... the pictures from the red installation, the cables are much shorter.
The shorter the cable - the less resistance!

If after looking at the red installation, the cable still seems a tad bit too long...
Consider this, not every wants to rout the cable through the rubber grommet to the battery compartment. The extra length is provided for alternative routing, just further to the left, under the "weather stripping" to the battery compartment.
