It's pretty close, the difference is not dramatic; if anything you're missing some high-frequency turbulence in the clips.

You're gonna just have to make a grown-up decision. If you want your exhaust sound to be louder, and you think you can handle a little bit of crackle and buzz, then I suggest that you go for it.

My father owned and drove four or five Z's, including a 240, a couple of 280s and ending with a 300ZX turbo. He agreed that the stock 350Z was too quiet and he went with me to have the resonator removed. When he heard it after they were done removing the resonator, he said "Now THAT's the way that car is SUPPOSED to sound!"

i don't know why... but all the sound clips I've heard do not truly represent the real sound. IMO in person the sound is worse.

fortunatley it's an easy mod to re-do back to stock. I suspect at least half of those who do it will in fact change it back.

don't say I didn't warn y'all.

cheers!

In regards to it sounding like a tin can civic exhaust!!! I must say he is off his rocker! Sorry N74DV nothing personal, I am a former civic owner with the exhaust mod on the civic. i must say this sounds nothing at all like a ricer! for those of you looking for a more aggressive sound and aren't ready for the cost of a new exhaust. this may do the trick for ya. but don't be worried for one second your car is gonna sound like a ricer.

You're right that the clips are not entirely accurate. The sound in reality can be sharper than what the clips have represented.

I suspect at least half of those who do it will in fact change it back.
I think the result posted here on the board is more like 10% change-back. I only remember one or two other people besides you that changed it back, and both of you changed it back very quickly, without giving yourselves a chance to get used to it. I feel the need to reiterate something I said before: if you sit there stopped with the door open revving it hard, it sounds harsh. If you're driving it, it sounds gooood!

I suspect you would be wrong. I love mine.

Better sound and more power. It's staying as is (removed.)
I also switched out mufflers so mine is deeper.

So where is the 50% (other than you) who have done it and switched back?

dude.... you said you switched mufflers too... that makes you exempt from the 50/50 stats...

I'm talking about just removing the resonator... if you do a search and read some of the posts about half have in fact put it back on.

Sheesh... don't give N74DV grief... so he didn't like the sound and he switched it back. That's his car. Personally, I appreciate the opinions of those that have tried this whether they have liked it or not since I was considering doing the same.

What I've read here seems to indicate that the sound is a little sharper and a good bit louder. Well, I've opened up my Z riding with the windows open and the exhaust note sounds great already! If all I'm doing is getting a bit louder, I'll pass.

Even if there is a 1-3 HP increase, I'll probably pass. It may only be $30-$40 mod, but that's $30-$40 being set aside for a twin turbo or supercharger upgrade that will likely require some exhaust plumbing changes as well. No need to change it twice...

Do it - try it... don't like it? change it back.

The increase sound is kind of addicting - I find myself reving the engine just to hear it hahaa.

That's the thing! Sound doesn't change radically! It's just changes a little bit. In a good way.

Audiofiles posted aren't very accurate. I'd say the second one is most realistic to pedal to the flor acceleration, but some tones are missing.

And I especially love thet burbling sound when you let the throttle go /deccelerate. It really has something similar to F1 cars changing gears
