Default Had my tranny replaced in my 05, just one question...

Yeah so I'm that guy that had his tranny replaced in his 05 and scared everyone about theirs lol. Well I got it back today, everything runs great, shifts smooth I just have one small question. The picture below will help explain the area I'm talking about:

The black line shows the pattern I feel in the shifter travel. Shifting from 4th to 5th I sometimes get stuck in the area where the red arrow is pointing. Is this normal? Is it something I need to get used to? I mean I've only had the car for about an hour or so I haven't had much time to perfect shifting, but my last tranny it wasn't like this so I got used to it that way. My old tranny felt more like this:

Any opinions?? I really have no clue. Thanks

I have the same problem, after the replacment it just doesnt feel right. I dont think there should be a notch there, but mine has it too. You will get used to it, still sucks though.

Mine does this as well. Have you ever installed a B&M shifter and then gone back to the stock shifter? The reason mine does this is that the B&M required me to shave some of the are off to the left of the the shifter and so now it pushes too far to the right when shifting into 5th and 6th.

How many miles did you have on the car when it was replaced? What were they symptoms? Knock on wood with my '05. So far not even a hint of any issues.

Thanks guys. I'll give it some time, see what happens.

BigMike, I had 18,000 when the tranny got replaced but symptoms started a lot sooner. First it would grind when cold going into 5th, then it would grind all the time going into 5th, then I lost 5th and 6th lol. I guess I was a little hard on the tranny, a few mis-shifts here and there but oh well, its done and over with now.

just a guess... maybe its because of the reverse.... i can BARELY feel it in mine but there is a TINY ridge there.. does yours actually get stuck if you move it over too far?

No, it doesn't get stuck there if I push it over too far. I just catch the groove when I shift and its annoying.

theres a guide plate that is probably out of alignment.. its easy to fix ur self. u need a 1/4in drive with a 2 in extension and a 10mm socket. pop off the trim plate where the shifter is, then unscrew the four bolts that holds down the metal ring that holds the rubber shifter boot. then u will see a triangle piece that is not lined up. untighten that alittle bit and fix it. and yeah.. that should take care of it. if u can't do it urself then take it back. its very easy to do.

oo btw don't race or "quick shift" ur car when its cold and u know the transmission is still cold.. u will mess things up quick... let it warm up and take it easy for a few minutes and then u can get on it and stuff.

just out of topic but why did you had your 05 tranny replace? Please don't tell me the grinding cause I was thinking about trading in my 03 for an 05 to get away from this problem.

Also, had my tranny replaced once and its working fine so far.

Honestly yes it was because of grinding. But I'm begining to think it was more my own fault . . . Lets put it this way, I never really thought I abused the tranny, but is was my first manual car, and there were a few times while driving hard I'd miss and then force it in gear. Also I powershifted every so often. Basically I did abuse it a little, but I wouldn't call it beating on it, so who knows really. If it makes you feel any better I'm the only one I've heard of having these problems lol.

This worked like a charm, I cant begin to explain how happy I am and it was so easy to do, took 10 minutes.

ATTENTION: Let me know if anyone is interested in doing this. I'll post a complete DIY with pictures. After having to deal with this for a day, I know it will be like night and day once you other guys with this problem get it fixed.

Alright guys I just got my car back today from having a new transmission put in. The transmission last three serial numbers is 008, which is a 2005 transmission. I seem to have the same problem that this post is about having that freaking notch there between 5th and 6th gear in the neutral zone if push over too far. Damn it's annoying as hell, I got hung up so many times from going 4th to 5th gear so many times tonight but I finally got the hang of it. Now my question is: Has anyone tried to align the glide plate as stated above and how did it work out for you? TIA
