I had my tranny replaced in my '03 touring. I had the notch problem like you guys in travel to 5th/6th & reverse. I adjusted the guide plate at base of shifter and everything then lined up just right.

I seem to have the same problem that this post is about having that freaking notch there between 5th and 6th gear in the neutral zone if push over too far. Damn it's annoying as hell, I got hung up so many times from going 4th to 5th gear so many times tonight but I finally got the hang of it. Now my question is: Has anyone tried to align the glide plate as stated above and how did it work out for you? TIA

I have babied my tranny for the break in period. It shifts like butter now at 3.5K. Also I never beat it until its warm. I also start the car up and put it in neutral for about 30-40sec before driving to let it warm up.

Ok I have the fix. Mine did this exact same thing after I got my tranny replaced (never really needed repalceing, but Nissan messed up). I took it back in and there is a plate that they adjusted and the problem is gone. From 5th to 6th is a straight line with no little spot in between.

Thanks ya'll I only had my new tranny since last friday and I have an appointment with nissan this saturday to get the plate adjusted. Another thing I notice when I was getting my megan testpipes and injen super ses catback installed. The rubber boot I guess that goes on your shifter right but the drive shaft was a dangling. My drive shaft have been eating away at it and I told nissan about me getting a new tranny. Also that I just had my exhaust installed and it was notice. So now nissan will have to put a new rubbery boot thing on that shift part. Anybody know what is the name of that part by chance? Hey thanks for the input guys!

as far as the 05's having trannies replaced, i'm on my 3rd one now at 18k miles.

first one replaced at 3k miles. it was grinding going into second when i picked it up from the dealership with 22 miles on it.
second one was replaced at 12,700 miles. at first it was grinding into 5th at 9k miles.
third one is running perfect. i have never had the problem you guys are experiencing with the "notchy" 5th gear but i did read that there's an adjustment. glad you guys found it.

Everybody likes a happy Z owner.
