Exclamation Before and after Dyno

1st run stock (226.3rwh) in 4th gear
2nd +Custom Grounding kit (227.7rwhp) in 4th gear
3rd +JWT pop charger air intake (233.4rwhp) in 5th gear
4th -resonater replaced with stright pipe (235.9rwhp) in 5th gear
5th all mods together (238.4rwhp) in 5th gear

the thec said the 300tt hade 21-22% Drivetrain loss so that is the numbers we went off of
total Hp 295-305 +/- 1% drivertrain loss

Tourqe reader was not working (EST)

284flbs-290flbs +/- 1% drivetrain loss

Not bad for $300-$400 worth of mods

Runs 1(stock)& 5(all mods)

Something is wrong here with the graph's.
Look at the HUGE losses in the midrange!

Graph's have only MPH not RPM, Gear, Air Temp and Coolant Temp

Without these Numbers there is no valid info here!!!!!!!!!!!

this is how the dyno was set(we forgot to switch it to rpm)

runs 1 & 2 done in 4th gear
Runs 3-5 done in 5th

It was 59 out side no fan on intake. (open hood)
Did not run air/coolant temp test

when I did 3 baseline dyno runs stock, the 1st was 4th gear, then the 2nd 2 were in 5th, and there was a 10hp diff between 4th and 5th.

i think it would have been more accurate on the gains if u would have done all the dynoin on the same gear.

Open hood won't give an operating type condition for the intake, but then neither would a closed hood chained down on a dyno. (Open hood= more cooler air than normal, closed hood = less and probably hotter air than normal) Don't know how you can be very accuate testing that.

Ok people, so his testing procedure wasn't the best for getting concrete power numbers. However, what he did do was show gains in power from the little bolt on (or off) mods that people bicker about on this forum regarding their effectiveness. If you feel the conditions weren't right for an accurate power assessment, just look at it as a decent comparison of mods.

Thank you for posting your data.

no offense chazz, I just don't think you can compare 4th gear runs to 5th gear. I demonstrated 10hp difference with no other variables changed. And, at least on mine, using 287 and 276 from the factory, came out to about 15.6% loss on hp and 13% drivetrain loss on torque.

I'm just glad to see others doing it. Cant wait to redyno with my exhaust and intake mods!, although I'm not gonna do them separate, its too hard to install the injen intake on the spot.

I believe with the CF driveshaft, the HP loss for drivetrain should be less than 20-21 percent. Supposedly 15 percent only. This would therefore lower your total HP (at the crank) estimate somewhat.

none taken, the guys that did the dyno wanted it done in 4th, I wanted 5th thas why the two gears. tish shop has never dyno a new 350Z so they did not realy know what to expsect(most cars are done in 4th) the only info you could realy use is the 1.4 rwhp gain from the Grounding kit and the 3hp gain from the removal of the Resonator. no info no th JWT pop because of gear change(after i saw the first 2 runs i asked what gear was used they said 4th i told them i wanted it done in 5th)

same with the guy at my shop. He thought 4th was the 1:1 gear, had to tell him to use 5th.

dont remember the torque on the first 2 pulls, but hp was 229 in 4th, then 239 and 242 in 5th gear. The 3rd pull, the only one they printed was 240 torque

if drivetrain loss is only 15% that means my Z only had around 276hp(withJWTpop/grounding kit) to get 233.4rwhp i dont think that thoes mods would Drop my hp by 11hp!! but at 20% the numbers are close at 22% they are right on the money

That makes no sence. I pulled at 227.7 in 4th and ONLY 235.9 in 5th with same mods(but every pull was higer than the one before it) that is only a 8.2rwhp incress where as you got a 13rwhp incress. That leads me to belive that dynos have at least a +/- 10hp factor

That or the cars. It's quite possible, there's no way they can be identical.

By the way, do you guys know that Dynojet supplies the dyno software off their web site (http://www.dynojet.com/asoft.shtml) and if you get the files from your dyno operator, you can make these plots all day? You can re-draw them at closer zoom, plot different curves against each other, etc.
