Nismo Cams - costs, worth it?
I'm shooting for 300whp, NA. FI is not really in the cards when you live where it's above 100 degrees for 6 months of the year (unless you want to park it for 6 months). Especially when only 91 octane gas is available normally.
I found a great deal on the Nismo cams on ebay (under $700), so I think that the money I saved can help pay for the install. If I can get 15whp from these, I'll be happy. I know, over $100 per hp is expensive, but not too many more options for NA.

if you are shooting for 300 whp, NA, without nitrous, you need a radically different cam, as well as a whole host of other mods...the NISMO's won't even get you close

Agreed with Adam... the US spec nismo cams will not get you anywhere near 300whp with other mods... either go for Tomei or Nismo Spec 1 or Spec 2 cams, but they will be a lot more expensive again and you will need an ECU to tune for better performance! You can find out how much power increase the nismo spec1+ECU+headers+ other mods gave me at my engine build thread.

I am currently making 260whp. I will be adding the cams, headers, test pipes, pulleys, light flywheel and tuning very soon. Maybe I will need a few more little tricks (like some head work, larger throttle body, etc.). I know that Doug Stewart (Crawford Z) was making 282whp with just an intake, exhaust, plenum, cams and headers. Nick from Ntech Engineering is shooting for 300whp NA as well. I think I can get pretty close. We'll see. I'll keep you posted.
Richie, how much power are you making with your mods? You seem to have similar mods (cams, headers, exhaust, pulleys, flywheel, tuning, etc.).
Oh, just read your engine build thread. Your dyno readings do sound really low "down under." I'm hoping that I can get up to 300whp on a dyno over here. Good luck with your engine build! Sounds awesome.

yes, due to different dyno systems that we have, we somehow have lower dyno numbers than those from the states... Our average dyno number for 03 and 04 cars is around 156rwKW bone stock (212rwHP)...
