Default Really Weird Transmission Problem

I changed my clutch tonight and after the install I drove it around and found when downshifting it was extremely hard to get the shift lever to go into gear especially first gear. First being the hardest to engage, and second being the next hardest. As soon as the synchros slowed the gear down I was able to put the stick into that gear. It took much longer than normal for the synchros to slow the gear down and let me select the gear.

When we were removing the transmission gear oil spilled out the back where the drive shaft enters. He replaced the spilled GL-4 75W-85 with 80W-90. Would this cause a situation with my transmission (synchros maybe) and make the gears hard to get into when down shifting?

What else can be causing this? I'm stumped.

I changed the transmission fluid. It wasn't the problem. There is some issue with the synchros as described above.

We bled the clutch. No problem there. Why would a new clutch cause problems downshifting?

Are you sure the clutch is fully disengaging? It sounds like that may be the cause of your difficult shifts.

I had this same issue after the dealer replaced my clutch. It is really nothing to be concerned about unless it bothers you. I just got used to it and never gave it a second thought. That was almost 9k miles ago...

you installed the clutch but did not mention readjusting the pedal - this is where your problem is

^^^ +1 every clutch has a slight different engage and disengage height. you can easily adjust clutch pedal also.

You do have to do a shifter adjustment procedure any time you pull out the tranny. This procedure is outlined in the service manual. It essentially resets the shifter plate to adjust for the driveline being moved from it's original location. This could explain your problem.

I replaced he clutch. The problem was the clutch was installed incorrectly, and fractured one of the carbon discs causing it to shatter as soon as the car was started. Pieces of the clutch got lodged in the fingers of the clutch spring not alowing the clutch to fully disnegage. A $2000 clutch in the garbage.
