Nismo VTC Pulley

Is this like a less expensive, less powerful of course, alternative to cams? Can someone explain this to me?

stock ECU can work with it for sure, but the ECU is not programmed to take advantage of those extra free plays provided by the Nismo VTC unless you alter/rewrite the program or use a stand alone ECU like Motec (only this one is possible to control valve timing at this stage)... if you don't change the ECU program or use a stand alone, those nismo VTC will just work exactly the same as your stock VTC pulleys... They really help with those Spec 1 cams that I am using... I don't lose any torque down low at all with that.

there is no way to statically advance cam timing...the sprocket works via oil pressure. The VTC pullies allow for 15 degrees more overall advance, which helps to tame the larger duration intake cams, and make them idle nicely, as well as allow them to 'come on cam' lower into the rev range - essentially it makes an aggressive cam more driveable
Are the Pulleys only installable on the revup egines with CVT on the exhaust cams as well as the intake cams? I have always wondered if and how this part could be installed on the non revup engine.

In theory they should allow you to have larger cams without the sacrifice of driveability. The upcoming VTC control with items like the UTEC it should allow the car to idle a lot better and find the lost low end torque with large cams.
I have some Tomei cams coming in fairly soon, it will be interesting to see what is found.
