Default power steering removal...

i decided i was going to run a short belt on my car to see what the steering would be like with the power steering off, i have done this to a few race cars before and had no problems. well first of all i loosened the belt tensioner and the bolt that holds the b t in place. took off the belt and measured it, decided that a 40 inch 6 rib belt would be sufficient for the PS delete. stock one is about 46.5 in. one problem i ran into is that there is a bolt that holds on the bracket for the power steering pump that is right in the way of the new route, so i decided to take off the power steering pump to try it. well a little while later had it all done...

this is truely not for any weak individuals at all, it was about ten times harder to turn my car, but you get used to it really quick. i decided that i was going to put it back on yest night, but after driving it more today i like it.

since the last time i went to the track. i have added a custom cold air intake, i had a K n N (stock box and z tube) and did the power steering

i trapped 2 mph higher in the 1/8th mile, and only trapped the same mph in the quarter

82.3 1/8th, 102.5 1/4 next time i go to the track i am going to bring my stock box and KnN to throw in to see which does better, but all in all i think the power steering actually helped... usually i pick up 22mph in the last 1/8th mile so i should have trapped 104.5, so i am figuring the cold air hurt my fourth gear somewhere it counted...

this mod is good for drag racing only, the benefits dont really help enough to over come the steering...

Do you still have this done? How involved was the removal of the power steering pump? Did you reroute the fluid in any way?

You didnt have to reroute your PS fluid in any way since there wasnt a pump there? Im talking about removing the whole pump not just the pulley.
