Damn it man!!!

I hate to admit it, but you could be right, who can guaranty that the car won't have something else installed in order to make more whp...
its a damn shame, I REALLY wanted to know for sure the possibilities.

I've tried to remain neutral about all of this but here goes. Some of you know me and some don't, but I used to have an 03 Lightning. Like most Lightnings I was setting up for the drag, more power, etc. My friend Andy (McDuck) invited me to his car show, ZdayZ (2004). After frolicking around on the dragon I made up my mind that the drag was boring, and decided to change my setup for twisties. Since MAy 04 I hadn't added a single power adder to the truck. Now that the background has been explained, I'll make my points.

1. On any given dyno, Underground Racing's , Dave Brown's , Aurthor Todd's, my truck made 409 RWHP +/- 2 and 508 RWTQ +/- 4. On a hot summer night, Andy and I went to CPR for a dyno night. I put down 435.9 and 551.8. I never had the truck dynoed again, simply because I never really cared about how much power I had, but how well I could control the power I did have. (I was mostly tired of hearing the Hondas wind out and was ready for a change of tone)

2. Dave Brown http://www.dynojetdave.com/ is the dyno of choice for the truck guys around the area. Alot of the truck guys like myself use a hand held reflasher to adjust a/f. You can call Dave and ask him what kind of power some these trucks are putting down, but believe, some of those built guys are putting down just ignorant numbers. Brad (Wildhog, NHTOC) is/was the second quickest HD truck in the country, deep in the 11's and still dynos at Daves. Justin (1fastscrew, NHTOC) wel into the 450+/550+ range. Dave has a huge list of customers in trucks because he knows his stuff, and all he offers is the dyno. He doesn't try to sell you anything because he is not a retail place. Point to be made here, there are lots of trucks putting down as mucn if not more that Sharif, and getting it to stick on truck tires. Most folks run the Nitto 555, 555R, or the Hankook. (I've never heard anyone cry about Daves rollers)

3. I remember when CPR was in the other location just down the street from UR. They used UR to do their tuning. There was some customer satifaction issues (with UR) that I know of and like anyone else, Eric and the CPR gang, had an idea that they could do it better. So they bought a Dyno. I don't know why they bought that one in particular other than it being Mobile and nor requiring to have a permanent instalation. Eric and the whole gang at CPR has always treated me great, I have no complaints with them.

4. I know a lot of people trying to crack the nut of 300 HP NA Z. Lots of folks are trying. I know Doug Stewart has spent a metric butt load of money on R&D to get there, and he is close. There are others as well.

5. 390 HP, Oh yeah, it is posible, 120+octane, Crank the timing up 58 degrees, and do the little indian horse power dance, LOL.

This is the one I wanted to chime in and recommend. This is the primary dyno I use to tune all the local Maximas (VQ30s and VQ35s).

I also recommend getting the actual run files, making the pass in 4th gear and display the SAE corrected (smoothing 5) figures.

There are some that have reason to beleive, but no proof, that the UGR dyno also reads a tad high. I know from plenty of experience that the 248C at Dave Brown Motorsports is as vanilla as they come (results wise).

Or you could really get your feelings hurt and run on the Mustang dyno at P1Auto.

Yes it is. But at the power levels that these cars are making NA, it is pointless to take them to 150mph on a dyno. That extended run time can have adverse affects on consistent and true power output.

Could you please explain that reasoning?

If 5th is in that range it doesn't matter much on a dynojet.

if you ever take the time to test, you'll find the numbers in 3rd, 4th or 5th do not vary by more than a couple whp on a dynojet.

This is true, also the dyno graph is smoother in 4th for some reason..But on a side note, this thread now officialy has hit PW3ND Status..And should be closed for its uselessnes to the 350Z community as a whole...

Just to let everyone know we tried pump gas and race gas and it changed nothing.

the gas alone is not going to change anything is the tunning that can be more agresive with race gas.

You need to tune for race gas, it will allow you to run more aggressive timing and leaner AF's with advanced timing. It has a more controled burn than pump gas, which can be unpredictable. Race gas is basicly higher octane more refined gasoline..

So your saying you retuned with race gas and could not make more power than you had? That's odd...Usually the timing advance alone is enought to make some more power..
