I thought I was the only one that did this, my firends think its stupid, but I keep telling them it saves gass, 1st to 4th

yea i was a bit harsh probably, oh well i was in a ****ty mood last night what i meant was that he probably has always been easy on the car and is obviously good at driving stick, my is in a similar boat with his vw beetle, hes on 472k miles on stock clutch and tranny, its fine for just putzing around town, but any sort of hard acceleration makes it slip.

Nah he's in LA with a black E36M. His name is Jlac if you happen to go on their boards. I did an auto to manny tranny swap with him in my parents garage.

This practice is completely fine...in fact many GM cars have a skip-shift feature which will guide you from 1st to 4th if you're at low RPMs. The idea is that if you're not accelerating quickly you can save gas by skipping a few gears. This is how the vettes avoid gas guzzler tax. It is an incredibly annoying feature in my experience.

also because vettes have enough torque to cruise at low speed in high gears too. For me, im not all into skipping gears i just try to maintain my rev in the 2.5 area. At this point im averaging 19-20mpg. at the same time it also gives me enough umph to cut lanes without downshifting to a lower gear which also means less strain on your clutch.
