Default Purposely skipping gears

In my last car (240sx), I developed a habit of high revving 3rd gear when I go onto the freeway to quickly match the speed of traffic, then shift straight to 5th to cruise. Or sometimes for quick sprint, I'll redline through third, then go into 5th. Now that I have a new car and want to make sure I treat her right, I wanted to know if this kind of shifting messes up the synchros or anything else in the drivetrain?

I don't see why it would.. i know on dialy driving i go from 1st straight to 3rd or 2nd to fourth. I try to drive it as much as i can in 6th to save gas =p I think this save some gas overall vs shifting through all the gears.

I skip gears also, but don't try to go over redline on any gear.
I figure the less shifting, the longer my clutch will last.

Well About skipping gears my dad has aproximately 478k miles on his 1990 nissan pickup STILL on a stock clutch and tranny. He attributes it to never skipping a gear.

Haha thats the worst explanation ever. Maybe its because early 90's nissans are overbuilt to hell and he probably drives it like a girl, 20 bux says if you get in it, redlined it and slammed second it wouldnt grab at all.

Nah I red line it from time to time for jollies and it holds just fine its finally losing some grip, He wants to drive it until it dies before he gets his quatrouppe. He is weird about cars lol froma 90's nissan to a maserati lol.

An Acura dealer said that on an Acura RSX type S, if you go from 6th gear to 2nd, you're tranny will fall apart. Weird eh?

Skipping is fine, just don't go from 3rd to reverse.
