engine rattles at 3000rpm?
I wish to know if anyone elses getting this problem.
If I full throttle, i get this solid rattle noise somewhere in the engine bay. I started getting this noise after putting on AAM spacer and thought it was the plenum rubbing the strut brace but it wasnt.
I tried removing strut brace and plastic engine cover, the noise is still there.
The noise however, goes away if I hold the shifter when the noise appears. If I let go my hand, the noise comes back.
So I am guessing, it may be something to do with the clutch/gearbox/flywheel.. or maybe the engine mounts. I checked my engine mounts and it 'seemed' ok, no crack or anything weird..
Anyone else getting this problem?

Do you have an after market shift ****? If you do, check if there is any bolt loss there.... it doesn't seem to be anything related to the engine or from the engine bay according to what you said...

No, i do not have an aftermarket ****.. The noise seems to disappear when i hold the shifter because my hand stops the shifter from shaking.. so that probably means that i get the noise when the shifter rattles at full throttle?
yeah... most likely though.... I used to have this type of noise after I got the clutch replaced... it was one of the 4 bolts that holding down the rubber shift boot (under your leather shift boot) was loss... so I just simply tighten it up and the noise was gone...

It's hard to reconcile a noise coming from your shifter AND the engine bay. It is most likely something to do with your shifter or something inside the tranny. My suggestion--take off all the boots from around the shifter. Be very careful to follow the TSB on removing the shifter **** (hold the rubber boot around the shaft with channel locks so you don't twist on the entire shaft down into the linkage and damage something).
When you take down all the boots (top leather, then two rubber ones) and you'll be able to see the transmission housing through a square opening. Then, put the **** back on without the chamfered spacer so it won't rattle without the leather boot on. Drive around and you can hear whether the rattle is coming from the transmission itself or from the shift mechanism or shaft or even the ****. You may need to tighten down the Allen key bolts on the brass guideplate if any are loose.
When you put everything back together--sound insulate both rubber boots with paper towel inside the inner boot and a rag donut wrapped with duct tape around the base of the inner boot outside it (and inside the outer rubber boot). When everything is back together, you'll notice way less shifter, transmission and road noise coming into the cabin. For some reason, Nissan doesn't sound insulate the rubber boots.
