Default Soot

What can I do to get rid of this soot I have. My exhaust is just voer a week old and its covered in soot like its 2 years old. One would think that all these mods would lean me out. But I guess not. Any ideas to fix the problem.

I use Turtle Wax Chrome Polish. WHen it gets caked on really hard, I use a soft brass bristle wire brush with some polish on it to get the hard stuff off.

Part of my service when I gas up is to wipe down the exhaust tips. Just wet the towels that they supply in the windshield bucket and go over it.

It gets mighty dirty even after 3 days.

Guys.... I don't think he's asking how to clean it. He want's to know why he's running so rich, hence all the carbon deposits on the exhaust....

Ferret - I have the same problem as you. My exhaust tips have been black from the first week I owned the car. I even brought it into the dealer to have them check it. Basically, if it doesn't throw a CEL, then it's okay according to Nissan.

I've been meaning to get a dyno done just to see what my O2 readings are. My guess is that we're going to need something like a TSQ reflash or one of these other new EMUs being discussed here and in the FI group.

Just a thought,
One other possibility is that is could be a low but consistant level of oil getting into the combustion process.... Don't know how or why, but as you said, the mods should be running you on the lean side.

What did your last dyno plot show on the A/F?

my last dyno was before my mods and it showed my car go from UBER lean around 2500 to 12 on the dot from 3000-4000 then it shoots to 14 from 4200 -> 4700 then after that slowly climbs back to 12 from 4800->6500
