Default 06 Z transmission Problem???

Hi All, my new 2006 base Daytona Blue (424 Miles) seems to have a problem with 4th gear. When I shift to 4th, it seem like it's sticky, won't fully engage. I've missed two shifts already. I've been driving standards for many years, It's not me !!! Before I call the dealer, has anyone had a similar problem. All the other gears seem fine.

Sullyz,

Did you buy it Armory? I saw a DB sitting there a few weeks back.

I had an 2003 and the gears are notchy like 97supratt said but I never had any problems going into 4th. 2nd was a little intersting when cold but only for the first shift or 2.

Yeah, I did buy it at Armory, Great deal and good trade in. Love the color. Armory said due to the low miles, continue the break-in and they'll document the sticky 4th gear. SullyZ

Sullyz,

I am looking for a base 2006 Z. Are you driving yours in the winter or only on nice days? I am trying to decide between the new black or DB.

If you don't mind me asking, how much over invoice did you pay for the Z? PM me if you don't want to post that info on here.

Are you kidding. Next to pop charger, the 350Z transmission is the most talked about subject here.

Honestly i'm just waiting until my first oil change so I can put royal purple fluids all over this car. From the engine to the transmission and rear end. Royal purple advised me you cannot break in the engine or drivetrain with high performance lubricants until after your first oil change. G- Great!

350ZNY, I only drive the Z when it's nice out. I have a Mountaineer for those other days, and a '85 vette for the summer. All in All I paid close to 29K, you know those NY taxes. Where in NY are you located? SullyZ

There is no break-in period for the transmission or rear end. You can put synthetic fluids in whenever you want.

The engine is a different story according to common belief, but this doesn't stop manufacturers like GM and BMW from putting synthetic oil in brand new cars.

I would say get that crappy dino fluid out of the trans and the diff right away and wait on the motor.

Sullyz,

I am in the Albany area. I have a deal for an 06 Z for $600 over invoice. I have no trade so full taxes for me. I think it is a good deal. It is a base magnetic black.

I'm actually taking this thing into the dealer this weekend, I think my 1st gear crapped out. Its making a loud a$$ noise, and the clutch has a bad cement truck sound. All the other gears sound okay but first gear sounds horrible.

I think everytranny is notchy but for the first 3-4 thousand miles its pretty much impossible to shift perfect. It takes a few miles to smooth everything out. At the moment, my tranny shifts great with some very rare grinding going from 6th to 5th. However, it feels amazing.

Mine feels awesome...it has about 25,000 miles on it and I use Redline MT-90...no griding or notchyness (is that a word??) ever.

I would give your tranny a few more miles than 400 to start worrying about it. Give it 2000 miles and if you are still having issues take it in. I know on my late model 04, shifting into second was like you described and after 1500 it was smooth.

In regards to royal purple, don't they use moly in their oil?? if they do, I wouldn't want it ANYWHERE near my motor.

I took my car into the dealer for the tranny problem. My first gear is making a really loud grinding noise. I have 2200 miles on my 06' and they said nissan doesnt have a fix for the problem. They said its normal but you do need to fix it unfortunately nissan doesnt have a fix for it yet. I guess that means i have to wait.

Its got nothing to do with the clutch, its a transmission problem for sure. Its in first gear and it makes a loud metal to metal noise. Now they are saying oh theres something wrong but we cant fix it until nissan comes out with a fix for it.
