Default *Upgraded Throttlebodies*

Well, it looks like we're going to have intake and exhaust mods covered in a little while, so how about a bored throttlebody? In my old N/A Eclipse I had it bored from 60 mm to 62mm by Proflow, and let me tell you this thing makes a NOTICEABLE DIFFERENCE when paired up with a CAI and hi-flow catback exhaust system.

So who wants to start pulling harder in the 1/4 mile?

To have a big borted TB to work, best if match bort the intake manifold and gasket. Or it wont do you much good.

I beg to differ, on the ford probe i currently own (2.5L DOHC V6) a 60mm stock TB bored to 64mm (14% surface area increase) gaines 8 WHP on a dyno, seen it a dozen times, so on a 3.5 I can only assume the gains will be greater. And there really should not be much of a need for port matching, that said portmatching always helps a lil bit!

i'm thinking that a mod like this will probably cost some money. the reason why i think this, is because our z's operate on drive by wire. if they were to make a brand new throttle body, they'd have to make a whole new set up that would respond to the remote control sensors on our gas pedals. it would take time to configure the new throttle body to work the same way the servo on the throttle body we have now. and also, as stated above, we would have to port match the intake manifold to see a real difference.

Boring out the throttle body is a good idea. How much? Do I have to send mine in or would you have one without submitting a core?

boring and building a new TB plate shouldent cost more than maybe 100-150 bux but that is using your stock unit, you would have ot deal with the down time, buying a completely different unit would pose problems no doubt.

Someone go research mid to late 90's Q45 Throttle bodies. Not the dual stage deals.

I just got an email back from Jim at Proflow, and he said that they have already began to look into the Z. The one thing he did mention however, is the possible challenge posed by the drive by wire system (heads up to whoever mentioned that earlier). He is willing to give it a shot to whomever wishes to send in their stock unit for r&d. By the way, this person recieves 50% off the cost of the TB once completed.

About the potential cost of the bored TB, my V6 Eclipse TB was only $200 shipped ( 4 days down time ).

Since I do not yet have my Z...

Any takers?

I would be interested in this. How would I go about this? E-mail him direct? Could you e-mail me with instructions? dan@its420.net

Thanks.

I was thinking about whether the Q45 was throttle-by-wire also. What would be sweet if they were a direct bolt-in to the Z. There would be a lot of parameters to consider like electronics, bolt pattern, size, and what not. But then it would be cool. Anybody got access to a late model Q45 TB to be the guinea pig?

Just email Proflow ( address given above ), and put "350z TB Attn: Jim" in the subject line, then you can go from there. Hope this helps...

If you don't do this please let me know, i can get a cheap TB and send it to them for testing.

BTW, maxima, altima, 350Z, murano and G35 TB's are all the same part #.

Just curious.

Yes, they are the exact same part, same part number and all. The whole motor is identical too, every part # matches up, only thing different is you guys have different fuel injectors. Your fuel injectors are actualy the same part # as the 2001 maximas, the 2002 max's got a different injector.

I'd heard the intake was different, too (from the Maxima and Altima).

Yes, the intake manifold and air box is completly differnt. Infact I bought a 350Z intake manifold for my maxima, I need a custom hood for it to fit though..

You may have been the one that posted that a few months ago. I'd remembered a Maxima owner that bought one and it wouldn't fit.
