Default Kinda worried about JWT cams!

I have a set of JWT cams i want to install this weekend, but i am hesitant since talking to one of my buddies w/ a NA maxima who has had some bad luck w/ them. He said he has broken 2 setts of cams in the past 3 months. I think it has to be improper installation from the ghetto a$$ shop he is using. Everytime he has broken one of the intake cams. Does anyone know what material is used for making these cams? I am swapping in a new motor right now and don't feel like replacing it again.

Cams-unless they are some $hitty regrinds shouldnt be breaking man. I dont know what material they are, but they are built to jwt spec I believe, you shouldnt have ANY issues with them breaking, Ive never even heard about it 3 years on the boards....

Installation / shop you use is JUST as important (if not more) than the part you purchase!

JWT is a pretty respectable company.

An improper cam install can cause a lot of problems so you really need to make sure the shop is qualified. There have been no reports to date of the JWT cams breaking after 350Z installs on the site that I know of. There have been improper installs which have caused bent valves etc.. I have personally had the JWT cams installed for almost 2 years now with no problems.

We've had zero problems with all the cams we've sold..including Tomei and JWT. If they are breaking them, they are definately not being installed correctly, or some other issue is at play.

Would the JWT S1 cams work on a 04 or 04.5 model? Because I have spoken with several people and they said that the ECU on the 04+ models woudn't be able to read them. Are they good if I plan to stay NA?

They work on all models, except the rev-up motors. They are currently installed on my 04 350Z.

You might run into some problems if you install them on a Z with the 04.5 ECU. The idle can't be raised and the car will likely stall out frequently. Mine had this problem and was fixed by Jim Wolf himself. They and performance nissan now sell kits that will fix this problem (about 50 bucks). Since the fix, I've had mine stall about three times in a year and a half. Other than that, the cams are a blast, especially above 4k rpm.

I believe that you can get the idle raised by having the ECU reflashed, but this costs a lot more.

Are they setting the LASH on the cams correctly? I know itis a time consuming process most shops do not even know about it..This is the process in which the clearance in the cams to the valve retainers is measured and kept within spec, and if not done properly it can cause problems.

Yeah Performance Nissan were the ones who said I shouldn't get the cams. They tried it on Tony's car and his car was having alot of problems. Mine is a 04.5. LA roadster where did you get your cams installed at? And did they lash them out like MRC said? Also would you guys recommend the Nismo cams or the JWT ones? I know the JWT is geared more for top end where as the nismo ones make power throughout the rpm range. I too am in the LA area and I wanna know a good reputable shop for installing cams that have worked on the VQ35 before. I was thinking maybe SP engineering.

I got mine installed at Performance Nissan. It was a big ordeal, with my car going down to JWT in San Diego twice before things got fixed. I believe I was the first to get the JWT cams installed on the new ECU. They tried about three things before it got fixed.

As far as setting the LASH, I don't know if they did or not, or if this was even the problem. (If Jason is reading this maybe he could answer)

Nismo350z - If you have the Technosquare ECU reflash, I believe you can get a re-reflash to up the idle for just $150 more.

The idle is a little bit rougher but not bad. I hear it gets smoothed out with an ECU reflash, but have get to get the reflash myself.

drilling an 1/8th" hole in the throttle plate accomplishes the same exact thing and can be used on blow through maf turbo cars, which the jwt fix cannot. my idle is perfect at 950 and the motor doesn't know any better!!! lol. been like this for months now with out a stumble.

Wow did they did your cams for you? I got almost everything on my car done there except for the reflash and HFC's. I thought they wont install parts if its not CARB approved?
