Short Shifter
Can has anyone comment on how a short shifter makes the transmission feel during shifts. I spoke to my uncle that just installed a B&M in his Boxter and is delighted. I'm considering B&M, Rogue and 350Evo. Any thoughts. Sorry if there are other posts about this topic.

From the reviews I've seen people have said they are not good for the 350Z. The majority of the posts I've seen, the people take the short shifter out and go back to stock. Makes it hard to get into gear, etc.

Well, for me, the throw is crisper and obviously shorter.
More of a simple flick of a wrist. To me is it just smoother.
But I was in a friend's Z and he took the stock linkage and made a few changes and his feels pretty much like mine now. Both of us have modified the **** so the top of the shifter is much lower to the base of the control panel now.
I like it and would not give it up unless I could find something very similar.

Stick with the stock one unless you want a shorter one for racing purposes. The short shifters are notchy and noisy. I have had both the 350EVO and B&M one as well.
For racing though, I love it. Especially on the downshifting end. Less time shifting = more time with both hands on the wheel.

This is the only thing I do NOT like about my car . . . the "short-throw" shifter.
The previous owner had one installed and it turns out to be a "B&M". It feels like it rattles a lot going into all the EVEN gears (2nd, 4th, and sometimes 6th). This is in both upshifting and downshifting. If I go very easy and keep rpms below 3000, it seems OK. It also rattles if I hold the **** while riding in 2nd or 4th.
Do you guys think this is "normal"? I was afraid it was the tranny, but I never hear gear grinding. I can't seem to see any advantage to an aftermarket shifter since the stock shifter is already "short".
Is there any way I could "adjust" it, or muffle the noise? I know in other shifters such as Steeda's Tri-Ax you can adjust the stops, but that's a Mustang shifter and I don't know about the B&M.
Is it really expensive, etc to have the dealer re-install a stock shifter?
Thanx

I had the stock 03 shifter, the first version of the B&M for thousands of miles, and the stock 04 shifter. The 04 shifter feels slightly better than the 03 shifter to me. The B&M was shorter shift throw, less accurate, and easy to miss a shift in racing - i.e., speed shifting, it would not go into 2nd from 1st if you tried to shift it quickly. The opposite of what I wanted. Haven't tried any other.

I haven't had good success with B&M shifters in the import world. I have used the Mossy Performance short shifter on my Z though. It has 4 settings for 10% longer then stock, stock, 15% shorter, and 30% shorter. its been good for me. No rattles, quick shifts...

Rogue is pretty awesome for daily driving but it makes the 1-2 shift difficult when drag racing. Otherwise, it goes into gear much cleaner, and more precisely with very little, simple movements.

rouge shifter has two versions of their shifter. one is the street version, which is what i have. i like the shifts, and it's not noisy. they also have a solid race version which transmits more noise. i tried the b&m in a friends 350 and found 6th gear hard to get into. get the rouge street version, it won't dissapoint.

Must be the solid race version. i've had the street version for more than 6 months with no problems.
