Hi guys im in the market for a pulley or pulley set i dont know which one to pick my main objective here is performance and reliability the looks come second. What would be the bang for the buck on the pullies or pulley sets out their. Im looking into the UR pulley and pulley set, the KJR pulley or the CNR pulley sets. My only worry is the performance the CNR is way cheaper but i dont know if it produces the same HP as the other. Are their any positive/negativess about underdrive or its nothing. Please i really need some info on personal experience and and real facts.

BTW If you have a pulley or pulley set let me know your input on them.

I have the KJR. The negative to the underdrive pullies is 1) you need new belts and 2) you are underdriving everything. Even URs own whitepaper on pulleys indicates that the gain from underdrive is minimal compared to the gain from the weight savings. I figured it wasn't worth the trouble to underdrive so I went with the KJR.

I agree that under-driving doesn't add much power (I think UR says it accounts for 10-15% of their gains), but it does allow for more wieght to be taken off the pulley...I'm fairly sure that the UR under-drive pulley is lighter than the KJR (non under-drive). **Keep in mind that it's very critical where the weight is taken off...weight near the center of the rotating mass won't effect the performance as much as weight near the outer radius.

I had tried contacting CNR about their pulley, but never got a repsonse...so I went with the UR set w/ belts, shipped for $275.

 

im going with CNR, theres a great deal on them, i think $115 for the set as the intro special. They are lightweight, not underdriven so you cna keep the stock belt. I mean there isnt dyno proof of these, but they are a known machine shop making them in house, so i am assuming the quality will be top notch. For $115 you cant go wrong, Ill keep you posted.

 

The KJR Pulley is manufactured to a very high tolerance. Each pulley is CNC machined and then sent over to a different facility where it is laser balanced. When I first started making the product back in April of 05 people thought it was overkill for me to balance it to the G 6.3 spec but I did it anyway to make sure that I was putting out a quality piece. Its now March of 06 and of the hundreds I have sold I have had only 3 customers return the product, each of which were NOT for quality issues.

 

I'm getting the CNR pulley's in the group buy. only $115 even though they arent dyno proven. It's worth a shot IMO. plus i can install them myself, if i dont like them i'll take em off. the UR pulley's are too expensive and if you have a system they are a no, no, plus they are a little expensive and you need new belts. too much of a hassle.

i have the KJR pulley, and installed it 4 days ago. i have no experience with any of the other brands, but I would recommend KJR.

i might even do a write-up on the install if i find the time/desire.....

actually it is sitting on my floor of my office...I will install it as soon as I figure out if I have an oil consumption problem.

 

I have a KJR, and got it because i didn't want different belts. I was paranoid about the underdrive, but from what i understand its VERY minimal and really affects nothing negatively. I guess its just really preference.

 

I agree... Just because something is cheaper doesn't mean you get the same customer support as you would with another brand. KJR has been a here to support our members and all our questions about his product and thats coming from a member that helped to put the other CNR group buy together.

 

go with the KJR, or UR. cant go wrong with either. i got my UR pulleys on my Z before KJR ever came out. the gains were there, and it felt so much smoother downshifting and rpm matching when mated with a lightweight flywheel.

hands down the lightweight rotating mass was my favorite mod on my z. i cant wait till i get a lightweight flywheel on my evo, i dont plan on doing a pulley since i dont need the extra 5whp on a turbo car. its just not worth the money on it. but in a n/a application where you have to scrounge for power at any expense its a great mod.

imo the Fluidampr is not necessary unless you go big on the power numbers.

install is a breeze if you know what you are doing.

 

I also just bought the CNR pulley. The GB price not is $110 or $100 for the lightweight and the underdrive pullies respectively, + shipping of $8. You can also choose a powdercoating option and/or hardening option(hardening additional cost). If you ever plan on going with a SC, you should not get the underdrive pulley as it will underdrive the SC. As has been said earlier, you can't go wrong for the money of the CNR since it is said to be from a reputable company.

I also have the KJR. I had mine for almost a year now with no issues.

 

The KJR pulley was basically untested at one time. Gotta love it, everyone wants to be a d!ck!

 

True but Jonathan is also a member here, drives a Z and was his own test bed. He gave several away at ZDayZ last year which got more of them out for testing.

The guy who was originally trying to sell these (Crazy Nut) wound up getting banned because he was not willing to become a sponsor and continued to advertise/sell here. What kind of support is he going to be able to provide if he's not a member?
