Is there a way to tell from looking at a carrier case ( differential ie pumpkin ) between the vlsd and an open? Or does any one know the part numbers ? I am looking to buy one that is already removed and would like to know what to look for.

 

Visually, I don't think there's any difference. If you're buying it in person, there's a very easy way to tell. Spin one of the axle hubs either backward or forward and the other will spin the same direction if it's an LSD and the opposite direction if it's an open diff.
