ok installing a new guage pod to replace my cheap overlay one but the new pod location is higher than the overlay one and my guages will not reach the new pod location. whats a easy way to make them longer? can I splice them? if so what wires would I need?

Since this was posted in the engine room, one vital specification to consider is temperature range. The gages are up high behind the firewall so it is not a risk. Those wires just power the display motor current, and any 18gauge would be safe.
For any high temp wire application in the engine bay or near the exhaust do not use speaker wire. The insulation will degrade and could short out. I found super tough thermal coated wire by "Thermax" that could handle nearly anything.

My wires I used are just above the bottom of the dash and run to the power wire for my headunit. I DID NOT run speaker wire to anywhere in the engine bay! That is the ONLY wire I had to lengthen.
