Default man. i bit the bullet.

first, i'd like to thank sharif and sam from GT motorsports.

i had a 'ticking, tapping' whatever the hell it sounds like coming from my engine. i was told the rod has been bent and had a broken piston wrist pin, which induced the tapping noise. not sure if i am proud of this, but i have succumbed to the dark side.... i am going with forged internals.

the engine will be built by GT motorsports with wiseco pistons, their own specced rods, ARP main and head studs along with a valve job (i have no clue what angle). so... i'm going all out i guess.

car will be done by 2-3 weeks hopefully. i don't like going to the grocery store with my bicycle and backpack to bring home the goodies.

until then.. cheers.

That's a bold move. Are you also adding FI, or just raising RPMs? Please post the details to motivate us stock owners for change.

Ahh so you stressed the engine some to make it tick.
I did my headers and agree never again. When I go FI it's going to
be an SC, so I don't break thermal cycled studs.
The ~12hr SC is on par with your Turbo install...
I look forward to your build pix! Ride your bike
there so you don't miss out.

He's talking about the studs that hold the headers on the car. They get super hot when the car is running and then cool down when the car is off.

I installed headers @600ml when everything was new, still was tough! After many miles/years of very hot and cold (yes in WI ) thermal cycles weaken the bolts' strength. My other Nissan broke bolts on both manifolds! Ever hear the dreaded ticky..ticky valve noise. The shop said they were lucky not to require pulling the engine while replacing them! That's how a dirt cheap bolt becomes a couple thousand repair bill! Over torquing these bolts accelerates their decay. Super chargers don't touch the exhaust manifold.

took some pictures... i was told the car should be ready by the end of next week (or perhaps next next week?)

anyway.. here goes:

assorted array of removed parts from my engine... this rod and piston caught my eye.

here it is mated side by side with a GTM spec rod. anymore use (or abuse) and the rod may have snapped. 'oh snap!'

here's a wiseco piston that'll replace the stock ones.

some headwork... confirmed it was a 5 angle valve job.

... the block,

... and the crank.

apologies for the crappy quality. didn't want to carry around my ancient digicam around. i wonder how much rwhp the car can churn out... 500 should be a very conservative and safe number that i'll be very happy with.
