Default From AT to manual

Hi everybody right now im in the process of doing the list of parts that I will need for the swap. So far I have this list

shifter
slave cylinder
drive shaft
pedal
clutch flywheel
06 tranny (im getting it for $600)

Anyways my question is do I have to change the ECU of my car or it doesn’t matter, am I missing any other parts. And last how much will this cost Labor not being nothing due to my friend is working on it n his done it on a bunch of 300zx n is a mechanic for Nissan.

Thanks

Well since my friend works at Nissan he told me that parts he would get them at his price. He told me the drive shaft was only like $500 that’s the only part that I see a little weird since I heard this things r expensive but who know.

Labor will be minimal because he is going to do it so I will give him some money.

We made some calculations from the top of our heads and came up with around 1500 to 2000 everything done with a brand new 06 tranny.

Ill keep you guys posted on this tomorrow he gets me the prices. And we should start by Friday or so.

I wouldn’t do it but im still waiting on the clutch packs which their is not even news about when they r coming out. Plus im going to get my motor built pretty soon. N their is no point of having a built motor if you cant push it.

would there be any complications that you're aware of? would everything fit in place, or are there going to be any fabrications that you need to do?

My friend only works on the Z's. Before I even ask him to look into prices I asked him can it be done with any complications and he told me yes that their should be nothing hard about it. N he said it would come out factory.
His done it in the old 300zx plus I don’t think their is nothing hard about we see it hard because we don’t work on those cars in a daily bases and don’t know the difference between AT and stick.

Have thought about this before but alwyas thought it would be too costly to pursue. Please post up costs when you get them.

I could consider this as well, if I could get a good deal on parts and installation. I had the opportunity to buy a brand new 6MT tranny about a year and a half ago for $50! I passed on this because I didnt want to deal with the hassel of doing the swap.

Once the clutch packs are done, SGP's racing auto tranny will handle 850+rwhp at a cost of about $3200. The news (last I heard) was about 3 months. The VB upgrade alone should handle 550+rwhp. Not sure I would do the swap, but it's your car.

Yea thats what mark told me but no news on it. He told me that it has been a pain in the butt. I would like to keep the 5at to see what its really capable of doing with alot of power but nothing right now seems promising.

add to that :

master cylinder for clutch
hardlines
probably a new electrical harness for the tranny
ECU with new key set
make sure you disconnect the start key interlock
probably transmission mount
interior pieces

Seriously with all the crap you'd have to purchase and the labor/electrical work...i'd stick with automatic or buy a manual Z and do an engine swap.

my roommate did a AT to MT conversion and 2 years later, he had all sorts of problems. that car was in the shop at least 3 months out of the year. but if desperately need a MT then more power to you. I serioulsy would trade the car in and lose a couple of grand compared to dealing with future headaches.

Subscribing to see how this turns out. I think you'll be the first that has done this.

Yeah, people with common sense would leave it AT and trade it in. Why would you buy an AT and change it to MT?
