If its done right you wont have problems. I would leave it AT but the clutch packs for the AT r still months from any sort of clear information. I talked to mark (from SGP) He told me that they were sticl not even finish producing them. Then when they were they had to test like six different materials to see which one would hold. I dont want to wait that long plus if i get my motor built which i think its going to happen pretty soon their is no point of having it built if you can push it to high HP.

BTW Im going into this project to see if it can be done correctly im not just going to start buying things. Will put two cars on lifts and compare to see what has to be removed and modify. what type of problems did your friend have, what car was this done in and who did it.

It is ambitious, but given your inside Nissan support go for it! It's a lot cheaper than losing addon$ on a trade in. Search through the service manual and print pages that distinguish AT from MT. The risk comes from changing so many things... so go slow and good luck!

Im going to get the diveshaft and all the other parts from a crashed Z n the tranny will be an 06 brand new out of the box. I think with labor n all it will be around 1500 or a little more

Im truly going into this project because the lack of performance upgrades for the AT tranny. Mines will pretty soon go out. And a AT tranny is alot of money around 4k of the dealer im just going to go with this hope its a success n not care if my tranny ingoing out anymore.

Your dilemma is why everyone should drive MT. The exorbitant $4K AT repair motivates owners to sell their car prematurely. Nissan ONLY offers two fully enclosed (non-truck) vehicles with MT & RWD; Exterra and Z.

Oh I gotta subscribe to this! I was going to do the same thing! Mr. Chen did this to a white touring (in Sport Compact mag) thats what gave me the initial idea. And being an E-5 in San Diego the pay is nice so what the hell? I thought about doing that to my auto since I bought it, but didnt have a good shop that I would trust around to do the work. Enter VRT. When they came on the scene I just about crapped myself! I was 1 day away from starting on it(sorry Micheal!), my own list was pretty extensive right down to the bearing pilot bushing and ss clutch line! Even had the new part # for the new type pedal. I think as long as it is done RIGHT by someone who is competent there should be no foul ups. Most items are somewhat modular between the 5AT and 6MT cars anyway. There will be LOTS of little things to buy, bolts for the flywheel,bell housing,dash piece,etc. One thing I didnt like the idea of was having a AT gauge cluster with a 6MT! Have you thought about putting in a MT one? Or maybe splurging for the NISMO? That was my idea. In the end my Dad is getting rid of his Z (a 6MT) for an S4 and I bought it Pick it up on Saturday! Good luck with the swap! Cant wait to see how it turns out for you!

Thanks as of the gauge cluster yes i want to change it but my first priority is getting it to work correctly the gauge doesnt do anything it just displays the numbers for the AT and a shift ( if im not wrong ) for the manual i get into that when im done with it.

Bro I Got a tranny "AT" with 5k miles on it for $500 from a guy down your way. Or same state anyway LOL Did a VB and TC upgrade and its holding stong cant say much for my motor ha

I can look for his email addy if you like? also shipping was only $150 from FL to VA.

I see he responded to your post about the rear. I just wanted to say I also got that same read when I got the tranny both are holding stong. I have also got a hand full on interior parts from him. His name is Jim. MIght want to call him easyer to get intouch

Are you planning on swapping the differential, or at least gears out as well?

The Automatic Transmission-Equipped 350Z/G35's have a 3.357 Final Drive ratio, while the Manual Transmission-Equipped 350Z/G35's have a 3.538 Final Drive.

If you leave the existing gears in there, you're going to be a bit slower than a factory-equipped manual transmission 350Z.

You're also going to be voiding every warranty that might still exist on the car. If I were you, I'd just sell your current car and buy a factory-equipped 6MT Z then swap over all your mods from your current car onto the new one.


Normal 6MT 350Z Gearing(Factory equipped):

He's FI. The lower gearing should be beneficial and I doubt he's concerned with warranties at this point.

Dont forget the shift linkages too. Unlike alot of RWD cars where your shifter goes directly intot he tranny, our cars use short linkage rods formt he base of the shifter tot he tranny itself.

Guys i had everything ready only thing missing was a driveshaft, tranny mount and slave cylinder. But as i said i had an awsome deal i couldnt pass up from pumpedva and i used that money. I will look into it but the funny thing now is that i found out that speedforceracing.com does the full tranny built capable of handling 800rwhp for 3600 so i might just consider staying AT.

And what i really like is to go in a straght line when fully built i believe that AT tranny will be more beneficial for me. I will see what i end up doing.

I don't know if has been mentioned yet, but you need to change out your gauge cluster too. The manual cluster does not have the LCD read out, but a shift light.
