Default Is it normal to smell gass after WOT

I tend to smell fuel everytime i punch the gas.I drive a g35 coupe 5at.I always switch to Neutral when I'm stopped or at a red light. Is that bad for the transmission?. I hate leaving my legs on the brake

Okay...I will attempt to answer your post, although I don’t know what one has to do with the other.

1. No it is not normal to smell fuel when you punch the gas. I don’t understand how you can smell fuel when you are going at high speeds. Can you smell it in the cabin, under the hood? More info is needed. Maybe there is a recall on the fuel line, like in my 03 Z? Maybe you have the trunk open and its exhaust?

2. Why would you leave your foot off the break pedal when stopped? I would be worried maybe I will get rear ended and fly into the intersection. Are you really that lazy to not hold the break? It would seem to me it would take more work to switch gears. Although in my 6 speed I put it in neutral when stopped but hold the break. No it is not bad for the transmission, at least not worse than you putting it in drive, park, etc.

I believe so the 3rd brake light stays lit. Therefore, people behind you know that you are braking or stopped. I always hold mine down, even if I have the clutch disengaged.

How many miles do you have? it could be as simple as a dirty air filter. 30k miles is the recommanded interval for changing it. Less is it's really dirty outside.

I agree with the idea of holding the brakes to keep the tail lights on.

BUT, since he drives an AT, it's better to let go of the brakes so that the pads don't stick to the rotors. You can get brake shudder because of that. I'd brake, and then move forward a bit to have the rotors turn a bit after stopping. Then hold the brakes.

Many times if you haven't given the car WOT in some time, then gun it, you will smell carbon/gas burning in your engine. This is normal and cleans the excess carbon in your engine. However, if you give it WOT all the time...and the smell is very noticable...then id say no it isn't normal. I take my foot off the brake in nuetral (6mt) at stop lights...

WTF are you talking about? Have you read what you just wrote? Could you find me one article on the whole internet that even remotely supports what you just said?

With that kind of comment, I'm not sure you're even worth the time to educate you...

Since you seem to be from the internet generation (ever heard of things called books?), I'd suggest you search for a white paper written by Caroll Smith titled The "Warped" Brake Disc and Other Myths of the Braking System.

You can apologies afterward...

The gas you smell is the fumes from the exhaust leaking in through the trunk area. Same principle as a glass hatch that's open on an Explorer or something. When you pin it, the air flow around the car circulates the fumes inside.

I looked it up, found it, read it twice, and understood it. I suggest you go back and read it yourself, and we will forego making a spectacle here. As you will re-discover, you misunderstood completely what Mr. Smith said. He was describing the process whereby coming to a complete stop following high speed braking DURING BREAK-IN is not advisable. This is a well known procedure recommended by most pad manufacturers. NOT during every day driving with an auto. You're welcome.

After 2 hard stops, if I come to a red light and hold the brake pedal down, I will later see an imprint of the pad on the rotors.

Why don't you calm down a little bit and have a beer...
