Question Engines for dummies?

Hey guys, i'll freely admit i know jack about engines. I was wondering if anyone has any sugguestions on any books or material that i could pick up that explains how engines and their parts work so i actually know what cams or boring or compression ratio does?

If you have cable TV. Watch Spike TV on Saturday mornings, 2 hrs of show all about cars, you will learn everything you need to know about how a car works. Speed Channel and DIY network also has some good car show.

Best Car DIY show ever: Shadetree Mechanics.
