Default question for the 5at guys

got a question ive got a stillen stage 3,and i have a small problem.at about 150-200 feet before the end of the 1/4 mile i have to shift from 3rd to 4th and it kills my trap speed as well as my 1/4 time.i am going to check with aam about upping the rev limiter, but do you guy,s suggest going with a torque convertor and valve body upgrade as well.the car pulls strong as hell untill the 3-4 shift.alberto drove my car also and did not beat my times either, all this was at mir in md.

I've noticed that 4th is pretty weak with SC and autos. I don't know if it's an auto thing or SC thing. Zach's is the same way. When he hits 4th is sort of looses ooomph. I think if you raise the rev limiter to 7200 you can make the 1/4 mile without shifting to 4th.
I have to shift to 4th now because i have the 3.5 rear. I didn't have to with the 3.2. I am NA also.

Most 5ATs pull timing when they hit 4th gear. It may have to do with the TC lock-out in 4th creating more stress upon initial shift so a 3.5 or 3.9 FD would help relieve some of that. Best thing to do is raise the rev limiter and try to stay in 3rd. You could try to get some of that timing back in with a UTEC or EU.

best was 103.85,but whats funny is while we a bunch of us from the mid atlantic section went to mir on the 26th,before i shifted to 4th i sall the speedo at approx 107.then alberto took it down the track and he watched the speedo drop about 5mph and not have the time to get the mph back up.there is def something going on at the 3-4 shift.it pulls real hard 1,2,3 and if i only had a few more rpm,s i could get through the 1/4 much faster.im looking at getting aam to up the rpm,s with a reflash but dont know if the stillen locked box programing will handle it yet.

rev upping is a must in 5AT for 1/4. valve body and TC will help your 1/4 greatly.

As DayBluZ said, I am seeing the same thing! I hate it cause I can just feel the pull end or decline once I hit 4th. I am still trapping 108+, but I would love to not have to hit 4th at all. I have thought about upping the rev limiter, but I am kind of elary about doing it. I know it should be OK, but I am still kind of concerned about revving to 7200.

I had my rev limit raised and I could get to the line in third . It didnt help the trap speed any . Trapped at 108mph . The valve body and trq converter will help more . Your SC EMU maybe pulling more timing just as you reach a set psi and that is right after you shift.

this is when I was at 350whp and didnt have the VB .
