Default My first Dyno pull

I went last Sat. and had my car pulled for the first time to establish a base, my only mod is a grounding kit.

A 4th gear pull the car laid down a 227 whp and 298 wtq does this sound right?

It is a lot higher TQ than I have seen from most Z's on this board. My car is a track model. Is it normal is my Z a tq freak or could the tech have messed up somehow? Are DynoJets idiotproof?

298 is waaaay high, something's definitely fishy.

(edited for stupidity, sorry Purdone!)

3rd is 1.62:1. Why would they build a transmission with 3 overdrive gears? 5th gear is 1.00:1, 6th is 0.79:1.

something is wrong.. HP is calc'd off of torque. the only way that torque could be that high and not the HP is if it happened way low on the RPMs.

does the graph have a huge spike on the lefthand side?

1:1 on the Z is 5th gear, would of been better to run that for your baseline. but yes that seems very high for the ft lbs! can you post the graph? would like to see the curve

I'll try to post the graph tonight. The guys printer was on the fritz so it isn't that dark, but the line is very smooth, no jagies and no sudden jumps across the span. Nothing looked out of place from any of the other dyno's I've seen. Just the tq was really high.

My first run I did in 3rd gear and that was 226hp and 289tq

Strange numbers. I'd definitely like to see the graphs.

To get torque that high and HP that low it sounds like something wasn't calibrated correctly or the RPM's were messed up somehow. Could it be that the graph was printed with the scales messed up so that when you were looking at the torque graph you were actually reading the HP scale? And vice versa?

Either way, something doesn't jive, so maybe if the graph is messed up you can get a second session for free.

I have the graphs in front of me, but the shop doesn't have a color printer It says max power=226.7 max torque 293.3

The second graph says max power=227 torque=289. I didn't get a print out of the of the torque curve I just wrote the number down off the computer screen.

There were cars before me and after all of which had totally normal runs. The person before me got the same numbers he had the month before. So I asume that the Dyno was running normal.

I guess I will go back next month and have him do it again, to see what I get.

Should I stick with the 4th gear pull, or attempt the proper 1:1 in 5th?

as long as you always use the same gear, your runs can always be compared, 4th is probably much easier to use, and 5th isnt really a great judge anyway, since you rarely use 5th for power, 3rd and 4th are more what youd race in.

as for the torque, do you have what RPM they were at? that would really help... something isnt right, maybe it was a 3 and looks like an 8? your hp is kinda low too, do you have an automatic by chance? edit: no no you dont, something was wrong with your pull. way too much torque, and not about 10 low on hp.
