Default Did almost every N/A mod for $2000

hey guys,

ive lurked on this site for quite some time now, and thanks 100% to this site, ive learned a lot about my car (not really a gearhead) and also gotten some good deals on my mods, thanks to fellow board members. just wanted to thank everyone and also share my experience with everyone. i can already hear the "for a few thousand more you coulda gone turbo" comments, but thats not for everyone. i just wanted a little more pep in my cars step, and i got it. i basically did every na mod besides pulleys, and heres what i got, and what i paid:

DC SS HEADERS- $250
KINETIX HI-FLO CATS- $250
HEADER & CAT INSTALL- $350
3:53 GEARS- $250 INSTALLATION INCLUDED
MD 5/16" SPACER- $250
POP-CHARGER INTAKE- $120
BORLA TD EXHAUST- $150
UNICHIP- $350
UNICHIP TUNE- $200

TOTAL: $2170

unfortunately i never did a base dyno, so ill never truly know how many hp i gained, but the z drives so much differently now, and is really a blast to drive. just my opinion, but i might have skipped the headers, because for the $550 i paid for them with installation, im not sure i gained that much power. anyhow, its been fun, and i just thought id share.

How did you get a Borla TD exhaust for $150? I'm guessing used.

Great shopping, $2k fully installed and tuned is a beautiful number.

How much did you put down on the dyno?

haha yeah i got the first one off of this board for $300 or $350 if i remember right, but dhl lost it. i was pissed. so i started checking every board, and i found it on another one (might have been 350zfrenzy- i had it in my favorites, but lost it when i rebooted my computer). local guy went turbo, and had it sitting in his garage. i read an old post where he mentioned it was sitting around, but he wasnt trying to sell it, so i pm'd him and just wanted to get rid of it, and asked me to make an offer, so for fun i offered $150, and to my surprise he took it

Actually if you read most of the "for a few thousand more you could have gotten a turbo" posts you would have realized that generally they are for those who build the internals on an NA Z.

In my opinion, if you are just look for some extra go like you are then you did the right thing. If you are mostly satisfied with a stock Z and just want a bit more and some uniqueness then why go turbo when for $3000 you can have all of the above mods plus some nitrous and be good.

However if you are in it for amazing performance, I would have to say that turbo is the way to go with exception of one instance. For example, RickDogg, whom has a fully stripped and track ready car, has no real reason for a turbo. Down the road I think that he is one of the few that could justify getting a built high compression and possibly stroked NA motor. That is where most of those quotes are from. You are looking at a ton of money to get what I would consider a "mere" amount of horsepower for the money as compared to a turbo. People like Rick can do that though, granted he still runs a stock block and internals.

So personally, I would be ready for the "what are you talking about" quotes since most would agree that things like what you bought are justifiable unless your goals are for huge gains. Those who would say internals and massive NA engine work is justifiable is few and far between.

i actually found someone who wanted to do a swap with me, but neither of us had access to a lift or any real tools. so i called scott performance, and talked to ted, and he actually needed my pumpkin because hes turbo'd, and i needed his, so he just charged me for labor.
