Talking MY AT TT Z with 3.5 FD my review

Well to start off yesterday I spoke to a board member that was interested in doing a FD swap with me. We talked about everything and arranging shipping and when we were going to have things ready. I tried figuring out if it could be a DIY but then realized that it would have been a pain in the B***. So today I woke up and started looking for prices and out of the blue I decided to call my friend that works in the shop so I call him and ask him if by any chance in the world he would have a rear differential of the manual Z and he did. So I ask him if he can do me the job and he told me yes to bring it in the afternoon and he would do it.

I go in the afternoon I waited right their it took him only 1 hour and a few minutes I was done. Well to the good part I take it out to test drive it. Well 1st gear is almost useless at WOT, 2nd gear the car gets a little sideways but nothing big at all it never did this before you can tell the gear is more shorter the before and it pics up quicker. As for the other gears I haven’t test them yet due to that its traffic hour. I will post my review of the other gears hopefully tonight.

But yes the car feels way more agile then before and it sucks you back harder. I did this mod due to the fact that the AT gears are to long for a 400 rwhp Z I think with just increasing the final drive that bit gives it that spark that it needs but doesn’t over kill it to spin the tires in an excessive way. I will return to the 3.3 but ill return to them when my car is built and passing 550 to the wheels. I encourage any AT owner in the area of 400 rwhp to do this mod as your car will be more agile and will pick up speed quicker to give you that quicker top speed we AT owners lag.

Comments are welcome and like I said ill review the other gears hopefully tonight. Thanks and enjoy.

Once i started breaking traction in 3rd and lighting up 2nd easily i knew the stock 3.5 gears were too short for the 6mt, I know have the 3.3s and it feels snappy still but it is more like what you would expect. I noticed my times are faster as well, eventhough i haven't beat my previous best.

Well, my friend, you just confirmed my suspicion. I did same FD swap a week back and think that it would be a good match for a large turbo kit (like TN or Greddy). My theory is that since your cruising rpm are higher now, they would place you right in the range where the turbo(s) is/are fully spooled...

Well I tested the 3 final gears and I must say their is a noticeable difference the car is quicker to response and my increasing rate of speed is faster now. I must say that im very happy with this mod. Any AT owner don’t hesitate to do it to me its worth it. Ill try to get some vids
