Default Does any US Z model have cooling ducts on the diff? *PIC*

I was just wondering if its only the European Z's that have cooling wents on the rear differential?

Ive seen some pics of US cars diffs but they have all been smooth without the cooling "ducts" that my car has (see attached pic).

At the moment im having some issues with them as my HKS exhaust dosent clear them propperly, so i need to come up with some way to isolate them with heat resistant rubber or to create enough clearance some smart way...

/Roger

That IS interesting. At first, I just thought it was the Nismo diff cover, but (hard to tell from the pic b/c it's black or dark) the pumpkin itself liiks to have cooling fins as well. What up with that?

the FINNED diff cover is factory equipped on euro and japanese models...

Not in the US market...

NISSAN MOTORSPORTS offers it as a upgrade...

It looks like the interference he's talking about is with some cooling fins on the diff itself, not the cover.

Here is a pic of a US car in that area:

No fins on the cover or the diff housing itself, like he has. Weird!

well, thats not a factory exhaust... I think thats a DC SPorts exhaust?

but, the fins do not get in the way on any US Z's or G35's with factory exhaust, or ones that follow path of factory exhaust or dual exhausts like Injen, HKS, GReddy....

the picture in my link is on Jeff's Z...

I used to have it on my Z as well...

Even GCC specs but I had to cut it and grind it when I changed the exhaust system.

Yeah thats what i was looking into doing as well... on the HKS there is a connection between 2 bits of the exhaust just at the diff that takes alot of extra space. The exhaust didnt fit at all initially, my shop had to bend the piping to get it around the diff at all.

Ill try with some heat resistant rubber and a metal plate in between to prevent the exhaust from grinding down the rubber, i already tried this but that came loose after just a few miles due to the thermo related expansion of the exhaust + all the vibrations, so now im trying to find something heat resistant to fix the bushing with...

Its intresting that the US cars dosent have these cooling finns on the diff or cover...

Yeah I know I also have the HKS exhaust, but what I did is I cut the fins to clear the connections. Check out the pic.

Yeah, that is strange, the finned housing. I have the finned cover, not the housing. Hmmmm. That Nissan is very bad to the US customers...

How do you guys jack the rear of the car without breaking the fins on the casing?

??? Do you use the diff as a point to lift the car!?

Here is a pic of the car on a lift (posted earlier in this thread)
https://my350z.com/forum/attachment....8&d=1150874896

There are plenty of locations to lift the rear, never lifted a car on the diff...

but when you only have a standard jack and not a lift then the rear diff is an easy place to lift that gets the whole back up.
