Default Tranny & diff fluid swap: did I do something wrong???

So the service manual says tranny holds 3.25 qt and diff holds 1.25 qt. I buy 5 qt Royal Purple Max Gear 75W90. I should have ended up with half a quart left over, but had to go buy a 6th quart to top off the diff after doing the trans first??? Looks like the trans held about 3 1/3 qt (just a little over manual specs) and the diff held a little under 1 3/4 qt (a good half quart more than the manual says). What up with that? Car is an '03 Track 6MT and was raised level on 4 jack stands. I drained fluid, then refilled until fluid started coming out of the fill hole and let that drip until it stopped.

Some diffs and trannys come low on fluid from the factory...it's a big problem with Titan rear diffs.

Ok, cool. I'm prob good; just wierded me out a little (and ticked me off that I had to go back to the store to buy more RP) that it took more than the manual stated...

Well, I didn't measure how much came out; just looking at how much it took to fill compared to what the manual says it should have taken. Hoping I didn't overfill the diff, but I followed the directions...

Looking over the manual again, the capacity does state that it's an approx. amount and states 1.25-1.5 qt (1.4L or 3pt), so I guess I'm not that far outside what it says.

Word of advice if you're swapping tranny and diff fluids: buy 6qt; 5 may not get the job done. Then again, it didn't take mush at all of that 6th quart to top off the diff, so I probably would have been fine had I just left it, but I couldn't tell how far from full it was so went ahead and topped it off to be safe.

I just changed my rear diff. yesterday, so it was pretty much bone dry and it took a little more than 1.5 qt. I have about .4qt left in the bottle and only a little dripped out. Gotta change it again today (break-in), so i will let you know how much it took today.

Your fine as long as it was filled to where it spilled out the fill hole. Enjoy your Royal Purple, good stuff, I highly recommend it and use it exclusively in our Z.
