Default Less cop trouble with FI than N/A??

I was in a discussion about this with a friend last night and I wanted to post the question out there. I am leaning towards staying N/A and modding it up but my friend brought up a good point about the noise factor and that that will attract more cops (BTW I live in Ca and the dB for exhausts is 95, I believe.). He added that going FI will put down more power, obviously, and be a bit more quiet.

Anyone run into this problem? I figure either way will result in police harrassment, but I wanted to see if one had more trouble than the other. This is all under the assumption that the police harrassment is not from racing but more in daily driving, cruising, etc.

Thanks

Your argument on noise factor seems to play out, all things being equal. But while your in the realm of legality in CA, going FI is restricted to Vortechs and Stillens as they are the only CARB'd setups as of yet, and probably ever! (JWT ) If this is what you mean by FI then your ok I soppose. But I would argue any FI mod is going to attract more police attention becuase you will be driving faster!

Well as far as sound goes, only a turbo kit will quiet the car some. Supercharger kits will not decrease the noise.

If you are worried about how loud the exhaust is, just add some resonators. I have test pipes with the borla true dual and the borla comes with a resonator on each side, along with the muffler. My car is not really loud, but is not quiet either. I have heard a lot louder Zs.

Well, the exhaust wasnt the only thing I was worried about, but more on all the upgrades entailed on staying n/a. I know it depends on what I plan on putting in, so the question is more in general terms.

I agree, resonators quiet things down a lot. I have test pipes and full greddy evo2 exhaust with two resonators and its too quiet. Now I want to take them off.

I got pulled over in the fall as i was wop and the cop on the motorbike that i obvouiusly hadnt seen(he was writing someone up) came flying up from behind claiming i was way to loud. He was a staff sargent with a miserable home life as i found out later through some cops i knew. Anwyay, couldnt give me a ticket for speeding so he gave me one for excsessive noise. I thanked him for the nice ticket and asked him before i left if it sounded good at least, he smiled and said the car sounded nuts, so to me it was worth the $110.00.

From the loudest [zero rear muffler] to the quietest oem cannot yield 5 HP difference..........the farther from the engine the less effect a muffler has!

Why cat deletes or premuffs yield more than rear muffs.

Turbo decreases exhaust noise by about 30%. Centrifigul S/C's will make most aftermarket exhausts slightly louder, and the Stillen S/C is loud as hell by itself. Want to stay stealth, keep stock muffler on (which flows well), and do a y-pipe and resonated test-pipes or HF cats with the FI system of your choice or NA.

Default Another thought...

I have found that alot of cops are car, and motorcycle guys. If you have the gift of gab, you can steer them towards talking about the car/bike, and usually walk away with a lesser/no ticket. I haven't had a speeding ticket in 5 years, but I have probably been pulled over 10 times. Anyone else?

I haven't had a speeding or any ticket or accidents in 21 years driven 388,000 miles in that period.

A frisky looking car, expensive wheels, and a frisky driver = tickets
Frumpy old cars and frumpy old driver = zero tickets and very low insurance premiums...........can save you $1000+ per year

yeah that may be true as far as noise goes. but wait until you get a REF ticket. then you will have to take all the parts off so the ref can sign your ticket off. or just pay the $250 fine for having those parts installed.
