Default Input on Debate.

I have been having a conversion with another member about the possibilty of doing engine work without removing the engine. We are talking in theory, im not a mechanic.

Now there many different elements to the conversion and points of disagreement.

But the one Im bring up for input is the ability of replacing the stock rods from underneath the car without removing the egine. It is agreed that the job would be best performed with the engine removed.

But what I have trouble believing is that the rods could be removed without removing the crank. I can see some of the bolts being replaced, but the rods. Other things I see causing a problem are rotating the crank, would the piston slide easily?, and is it possible to remove the oil pan parts to get at the short block?

This just sounds to hard from that angle.

If Im reading your post right .

The rods do not go in from the bottom of the motor . They are bolted to the pistons and both are slid in place from above

yea thats what i was trying to convey.
the bottom is a half circle.

but the idea he had was pulling them down, then removing the from the piston while leaving the piston in the sleeve. I dont see it being possible.

It was just an interesting idea.

it wont work, the piston has to come out to remove the rod.the pin has to be removed before the rod will come out,it has to be done from the top.and tell your friend that there is this huge thing called a crankshaft in the way.
