350Z performance gains
Hi all,
I am getting an 05 or 06 350Z in about a months time.... so excited... I first considered a turbo or super charger kit but now i may just end up going with aftermarket parts (bolt on) like cold air intake, stillen exhaust, aftermarket header, aftermarket flywheel, etc.... without a turbo charger/super charger, a Nissan dealer is telling me that he could give me an extra 70 HP at the rear wheel with these parts... Does that seem reasonable? If so, how much of a decrease in the 0-60 time of 5.8 secs do you think a car with those parts can achieve (with the same driver who made the 5.8 sec time for the stock run)??? DOes 4.9 or 5.0 secs for a 0-60 seem reasonable for an additional 70HP gain?
If this is attainable, i'd rather do this than put on a super/turbo charger and risk the chances of voiding the warranty.

If that is not attainable... what could one expect to gain from adding aftermarket parts without a turbo/super charger?
Is 40-50 attainable?
He told me that the stillen exhaust will give an additional 18-19HP vs. a NISMO exhaust HP gain of about 5HP....

you dealer estimate seem to be a bit high....you could get HKS exhaust with 11-14whp gain with a reflash, intake could probably be anywhere but less than 10whp, Nismo cam gear addvertise for 15 whp, that's probably it for the big NA hp parts....the rest of the stuffs are less than 10whp. So, just search around..

As everyone else has told you the dealer is a liar. It will cost well over 5k to get 70rwhp out of the Z N/A if it can even be done. You would need every imaginable bolt-on including cams to get to that. Many people who really know the Z inside and out doing their own work and tuning have had problems getting that power out of it. That basically puts the Z at 300rwhp which is something that has been basically unobtainable so far. If it were as easy as the stealership says you would see lots more 300hp Z's out there. Just look at peoples long mod lists in their sigs. People with nearly every bolt on besides cams are getting 25 to maybe 40rwhp out of them.

Since i am looking to get 380-400 RWHP out of my 350Z, I guess i'll have to resort to turbo/super charging kits.... 2 questions about this
1) Will super/turbo charging the Z void the manufacturer's warranty?
2) What's the pros and cons of each and how much more wear and tear will turbo/super charging cause on the engine's components?
3) How much should i expect to pay for a decent turbo/super charger kit w/ the cost of installation?

1. effectively it will void most of your engine warranty, however they would still have to be able to link the problem to your FI setup.
2. its a personal preference as far as what type of FI you go, thousands of posts have been written about each so I suggest you do a search on the subject. but first determine what your goals are. how much power do you want, what type of driving do you plan on doing, etc? if you do go FI and want to some insurance (which I strongly suggest), then you should beef up your internals.
3. I'd say for a decent FI setup from the kit itself, all the extra parts you may need, plus installation and tuning your looking at an entry cost of about 10k. sure you can get it cheaper than that, but if we're talking all new parts, no costs cutting and a quality install and tuner I'd say thats a fair estimate.

^I agree that saving money is intelligent, but thats all a matter of perspective. some people would call paying the higher cost for a sports car over an economy car to be a "waste of money". just because there is a faster way to get somewhere, doesn't make it a smarter way. those guys who are pushing the envelope on the N/A front are the ones I give the most credit to precisely because they aren't taking the fast and easy way to power. they truly are expanding the wealth of knowledge and technology with VQ's so that both N/A and FI ethusiasts alike can benefit.
keep in mind that I'm arguing the statement you made and not that the everyday Z owner should be going the N/A route.
