Cams are in. I should get the car back tomorrow after the fuel hose recall is done.

I got the car back today. Boy it sounds good. Like a V8 at idle. My installer told me to take it easy for 500 miles to let everything seat properly. Therefore I can't report on how much difference the cams really make yet.

I do have a few more questions though.

The idle is rougher than I expected. My installer says it will get better in a few days as the ECU adjusts.
1. How long does it take for the idle to settle down?
2. How much lope do you end up with once the ECU adjusts as compared to stock?
3. Is 500 miles a proper break in period?

I didn't have a problem with a rough idle after cam install because the ECU idle was bumped up to a bit to compensate (about 900 rpms). Had minimal break in time but do recommend an oil change soon. Enjoy the cams!

Ztrackman,

Thanks for the reply. Do you have an ECU reflash? I do so we thought it would adjust to the cams. I wondered if the idle should be raised.

03-05 350Zs except for the 05 Track and Anniversary editions have the non rev up motor (6600 rpm redline)

06 and 05 Track/Anniversiary models have the rev up motor (7100 rpm redline)

The lower plenums are different for the two motors.

After two days, idle has improved some. It still wants to fall below 600 rpm every so often. I think I am going to see if I can raise the idle to 850 to 900 rpm. Hopefully that will help.

Although I haven't redlined it yet, the car seems to have more power above 3000 rpms without any loss below 3000 rpm. I am going to try to get on it more today. I really want to see what it does above 5000 rpm. I came home last night and checked for any leaks and checked my oil and coolant levels. So far everything looks really good.

is your idle actually rough? like RPM's move up and down? or do you just get that ruggada ruggada ruggada sound more?

remember you physically changed the motor, its going to idle different, it doesnt have anything to do with your ECU unless you have an idling problem, like RPM's moving iradically... You should bump up your idle though, looking at your mods... 900 is good like you mentioned..

Anyone with a consult II can help you. For $100.00 you can go to any dealership and have them bump the idle to 850 rpm. They can also do an idle/air volume relearning procedure, which can really smooth it out some. I stalled at practically every stop light before I had this done.

Yes the idle actually goes up and down. It is more than just the lope caused by the cams. Sometimes it almost stalls.

Thanks. I will talk to my dealer about changing the idle to 850 or 900 rpm. We discussed it when I picked up the car, but they wanted me to wait to see how the ECU adjusted to the cams before adjusting the idle. Except for the idle issues the cams are great.

After being able to drive my car more this weekend I can really tell a difference after the cams. The low end is still there, but there is more mid and upper rpm power. It now pulls hard to redline.

Great mod except for the idle issue, although my computer has adjusted some more and it isn't as bad as it was. The engine has a nice lope at idle like a V8. If it would only maintain a constant rpm at ilde I would be happy. I hope bumping the idle to 850 or 900 rpm will fix that issue.
