About 6600 miles on my daily driver - no issues. Dealership threw in lifetime oil changes so I have one service under my belt.

My consumption data, at this point, is only estimated. You can get a fairly accurate measure when doing an oil change (assuming you haven't added oil since your last change). Measure the oil that you drian by pouring it from the drain pan back into empty oil containers. Not perfect but I would guess that it is accurate to within 1/4 qt or better.

thanks thanks for the explanation

Default 2006 Oil Use

My 06 Touring used a littel over a quart in the first 3200 miles. I am watching it close now. I have not really run it hard, and ususally run under 3000 RPM witht he shift indicator set at 4000.. I think this is probably going to be a problem.

As a new owner what is the best oil to be running in the 06 Z? I normally change oil every 3000 miles.

I have about 1800 miles on my 06. The hardest thing for me seems to be getting an accurate reading from the dispstick. I don't trust it at all.

I'm just bringing this thread back up to see if anybody can offer more input. Specifics really help.

I have an '06 Touring 6mt and it's burning at least a quart every 800 miles. Still fighting with Nissan and the dealer for a resolution.

Any more data helps those of us with problems to get it taken care of.

Just under 500 miles and nothing noticeable. The level is still at the high end of the hatch marks on the dip stick.

I'm checking it religously....

I don't think so. Then again I refuse to fuss with that stupid dip stick all the time. I also change my oil every 3k

did you diy? or did you have the dealer change your oil? You might want to tighten the cap for the oil release

my 06 is doing roughly 1 - 1.5 quarts every ~3,000 miles. It was doing this from day one when I drove it off the lot. I have switched to mobile 1 5w30 syn and it is the same...I just stay on top of it. For the guys that are having issues with their dipstick reading, just let the car sit 15 minutes after it has been running and the oil drains back down...look on the "printed" side of the dipstick, the back side just freaks me out because it really never clears out.

I changed my oil at 8k, now it has 11,800 miles, and Ive added about 2 quarts. So its about 1qt every 2k miles. I will take it for a consumption test next week, but if it is 1qt every 2k miles(.5 quart per 1k miles) I dont think they would replace my engine.

Got to love the 3 strike rule.

I don't change oil I replace engines. For such a fun car it is crazy to have these issues.

Please forgive my ignorance here. Had my '06 for 3 weeks now. Can someone explain the long block/short block thing. Which block does the car come from the factory with? Did they change blocks with the rev-up? Thanks.

autos dont get the rev up engine, but I have heard of some non revups consuming oil, not as much as revups though.

Thank you to every one that's taken the poll.
The more of those without consumption problems that post up the more proof that those of us with problems are not within "normal" range. Nissan's argument is that the manual states "some" oil consumption is normal. My argument is that the majority shouldn't and don't consume any and the ones that do have something wrong.
I just want Nissan to start fixing the problem instead of insisting there's not one.
