That size will work perfect! Motion Industries is a national chain and LOCAL.
The $7.31 FEL-PRO sleeve is NOT stainless steel. Bought at advanced auto parts. Will get one and see how it goes. Thanks again E***zzzzy!

"damelman"'s results, I assume...

Holy cow... just looked and Motion Industries has a location not 5 min from my work! I'll try to swing by today and check out this sleeve. I haven't removed my CNR pulley yet to replace it with the UR one I bought, so if this pans out, I'll just go this route and sell the UR. Crossing fingers... this could make alot of people I know happy. Thanks, man!

BTW, Motion Industries' website lists the sleeve for $31.19 You can order from their website as well.

https://www.motionindustries.com

Do product search for part number 99189 (it will be the third listing) or MI item # 01315767

Are you sure it's safe that the sleeve does not cover the entire shaft? I don't know how it all rides on what, but my forst thought would be that the front of the shaft will be a little narrower without the sleeve covering it, which might leave room for pulley wobble. Any validity to that?

All the sleeve has to cover is where the seal rides---There is Zero wear on the remainder, And the sleeve is only like .003 thick. The stability of the pulley is NOT deterrmained by the OD, It is deterrmained by the ID that slides over the Crank end which never changes

Ah, gotcha; that makes sense. Thanks again!

I just need to mic my CNR pulley and make sure he measurements match what damelman got on his KJR to know that the same sleeve will work. I'll also compare to my stock pulley and the UR one I have laying on my bench.

Question:

What is "depth to radius"? I'm loking at this measurement of .690" compared to the .551" depth of the sleeve, wondering if there is a difference in the terms used to define these measurements, b/c looking at what .69" is and recalling the pulley from memory, it seems that the shaft of the pulley that inserts into the engine is longer than that.

The used UR pulley I bought has a ring on it marking where the seal rides (it's sleeved, so it's not grooved, just a mark that'll probably buff off), so I can measure how far from the end of the shaft the sleeve will need to extend to cover this area.

Ok, just measured my stock and UR pullies (didn't measure the CNR, as it's still on the car, but willing to bet it's the same). Disregard my question above about the depth; the shaft is indeed .69" and .551 is more than enough to cover the grooved area. Both the UR and stock pulley shaft diameters come in the same as what the KJR did: 48mm or 1.89". Looks like that sleeve will be just the ticket. Gonna swing by tomorow and see if I can pick one up.

Ok, due to the cost of the sleeve and the fact that I already had a UR pulley in the garage, I decided just to use it and not sleeve my CNR pulley (I may do it later and resell it), BUT I did share all this info. with the Infiniti FX forum I moderate. There ws a GB on the CNR pullies there and many members were affected by this (none that noticed major leakage, but the problem is a ticking time bomb. At any rate, I shared the sleeve info. there and one of the members got his, had his mechanic install it as well as replace the seal and took pics of the entire process, which can be seen here:

Any follow-up experience with the sleeve on?
Also, can somebody pls clarify whether you need to machine the pulley in order to put the sleeve on?
Thanks.

You DO NOT need to machine the pulley to put on the sleeve; it just taps on.

Read the thread from the FX forum I referenced above; it has a follow-up. Apparently, when he ordered the sleeve, he was told it was out of stock, but was recommended a different one with similar specs. When he got it, it came in a box that had the same part number as the one posted earlier in this thread, so I don't know what was up with that. At any rate, when he had his mechanic tap it on, they noted that the sleeve was a little LONG and stuck up from the end of the pulley shaft a tiny bit (the specs of the sleeve referenced in this thread state that is should be SHORTER than the pulley shaft). They didn't think anything of it at the time and installed it like that, which turned out to be a mistake b/c it caused all kinds of leakage somehow. They pulled it back off and ground down the sleeve to match the pulley shaft and it was fine after that, so ot was an easy fix. Just something to look out for in case that happens to anyone that gets a sleeve: make sure it goes on flush with the end of the pulley shaft.

bump, just wondering if anyone else has done the fix and if it has not worn through the sleeve?

This is an old thread !!!!--All I can say is this. I have sleeved dozens and dozens of shafts, mainly pulleys and have never had a failure or on later inspection any indication of wear. The sleeve is Stainless Steel and will last for yrs at the least.
